I'd definitely be up for removing the dpf, cat and egr but the dpf is so close to the bulkhead that it would be a nightmare to remove and then replace for every mot. Also I'd have to wait 3 years to do it Big Cry 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Having now worked it out, I get on average 25.5 to the gallon.

Interestingly towing a trailer (about 1,000kg) seems to make no difference to fuel consumption. Probably drive more smoothly and less quick towing so maybe I could improve MPG if I adopted a towing style of driving even when solo.

But where's the fun in that Thumbs Up

2.2tdci 2012; BAS Remap 20 inch Wheels, Coopers
My Old 300 tdi would only get above 30 mpg if I kept the speed down to 55mph, the speedo read 62-3mph. More than 10% fast. The odometer was also likely to be similarly more than 10% over-reading. If I drove at 75-80 mph, it dropped to 22mpg. My current 2.2 has a totally accurate speedo. I can cruise at 80-85 and I get 25mpg. I haven't tried trundling along at 55, too much fun Rolling with laughter

driving as an old man, at 2000 t/min approx 90 - 95 km/h , sometimes a trailler ...
- first year average 29 mpg - 9.71 L/100km) (26000km)
- year 2 : average 31.8 mpg - 8.88 L/100km (25000km)
- year 3 : average 31.8 mpg - 8.88 L/100km (25000km)

last hollydays in Auvergne june 2015 : 33.7
hollydays again Auvergne : july 2015 : 35.1

try 35 mpg, (8 L/100 km ) but not easy ...

My 2.4 was shocking from new,I couldn't get under 14ltres per 100,now with over 100,000k's on the clock it gets 10 per 100.Give it time to settle in and don't baby it,drive the sucker. Pat

"Always seem to get better figures when touring in the summer in higher temps, even after discounting the type of driving done"

There is some science behind better fuel economy in the summer. As a lorry driver 30 years ago I found I got better mpg by to filling up in the morning as cold fuel from the underground tank expanded with heat. Before anyone shouts this down I have proved it to be true many times and have witnessed other drivers filling their tanks to the brim in the evening, parking up for the night, and seeing a puddle of diesel under the lorry as the fuel expands. I am surprised no one has designed a fuel heater to make use of this phenomenon.

Very early days yet, but my new 110 XS does 25-26 MPG. The previous 2001 110 TD5 did 26-28MPG, and the 1983 110 V8 before that did 13 MPG on LPG, so price wise all much of a muchness.

I would say it would take a lot longer then between morning and evening to warm fuel up in a underground tank

yes agree with fuel expanding over night from a underground tank as the small amount in vehicle tank will warm up without the insulation of the ground around it

technically you should get less power from warm fuel , so mpg should suffer with warm fuel , one reason why dragsters will run ice packed fuel coolers to get denser fuel to give more power per certain amount of fuel

but I would say the diffirence would be so small you would be hard pushed to notice it on road use

Ah yes but I bet the sound from the V8 was the best Very Happy

We had a Disco 1 V8 with an LPG conversion and it made me smile every time I drove it.
That was when I wasn't fixing the endless stream of electrical problems that plagued it on a regular basis.
