can anyone recommend an inverter and installation
I'm looking to install one - nothing too big c300W probably in the rear? anyone done this already - any pros / cons? |

Any inverter will sap the vehicle battery before you know it, I'd install a 2nd auxillary battery fed from a split charge relay. This will ensure you've plenty of juice to start your engine.

oops - i thought the batteries were rated about 200A / hours (obviously not?)

I have a 1500w inverter in J-Lo its mounted over the rear wheel arch. Its connected to 3 battery's that are placed under the 2nd row seats. 130's have feeling's as well you know

Where do you get yours! I think mine's about 90A/H and it wouldn't do much with only a third charge left in it. |

A 300 watt inverter would draw about 28amps at full power, so at full power you have 2 to 3 hours on a standard battery. We use our inverter whilst driving so we don't run into the flat battery syndrome.
The inverter runs off the second battery hence protecting the main starter battery. The split charging system also has an audible low battery alarm. HTH Brendan |

Twin batteries or inverters?
Really depends on what you need from your vehicle? If you intend running a fridge/auxilary lights etc then twin batteries are good. If you want to just charge your laptop up whilst on the move then an inverter is fine. If you are planning on equipping vehicle for overland trips then you might want both a twin battery system and an inverter. What are you planning to plug into the inverter? Could you get away with a 12 volt adapter for whatever equipment you are going to plug into the inverter? Brendan |

I will install a 1500W inverter + 2 deep cycle batteries in our folding camper and an isolator to prevent to drain the car battery when are hooked-up. As we will probably spend a lot of time camping without electricity for this reason this setup.
A nice formula to see how much time is needed to drain a 12V 100Ah battery is as follow: Time in minutes = 11609 x (current in Amp) ^-1.3269 So, if you have, let said a 300W consumption means 300/12 = 25Amp T = 11609 x 25^-1.3269 = 162 minutes A 800W hairdresser can last your battery in just 44 minutes, and so on.
