2010 Defender tyre/rim question
Hi,

Sorry about asking questions that have already been answered but I can't seem to get the "search" function to work..

I'm looking at fitting Kumho KL71 MT 265x75x16's on my 110 using some modular rims, what width rims should I select, 7" or 8" x 16 rims?

Cheers.

8" of course but i have had a set of 265 KL71's on for a year now and changed back to my 265' BFG M/T's and the BFG is the quieter and better tyre. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Either 7 & 8 will do for 265's, both safe to use.

What's the advantages on 285's over 265's? Will they fit under the arches without mods or spacers? I'd assume fuel economy would suffer Sad

Check my gallery, 285 on 8" steel modulars no spacers required, no suspension lift either...

8.5" wheels, no lift. Only advantage I can think of is ground clearance from diff to ground.

I run 285 KL71s on standard Boost alloys with 30mm spacers and they are fine. Probably no real advantage but they look good! Mind you the spare becomes very big and heavy.

Just as well the door is made of steel!! I like the look of the KL71's, seen some 265x75x16 on black modulars, having mixed feedback on these. Guys local to me love them, some prefer the BFG's tho. I've had BFG's before on a RR and they lasted very well and looked good too. I'll see what sort'a deal I can get for a set of 5 Whistle

I run 265 KL71 on my 110, using the SVX wheels, I had to adjust the steering stops which has reduced the turning circle, and when the spare is fitted it traps the rear wiper

 JE Zulu 110 now sold
Carpathian 110 also sold
Defender 110 camper now in build

Before I bought the mantec carrier my spare was hung on the door in the normal manner. It pulled the top of the door out about 10mm and rubbed the paint off the bottom near side where it caught on the lower frame. If you are getting a set I personally would recommend getting some sort of carrier.
