IPF Headlights not working on dipped beam

Having read all the other threads on headlights I'm still stumped. Note-1997 Defender 90 300tdi

I have IPF headlights & bulbs but using the existing wiring harness (I know this isn't ideal & will change in time)

The lights have run fine for over a year now until recently when everything but the dipped lights work. I can flash, use main beam, and run side lights incl.a glow from the IPF bulbs, but as soon as I switch to dipped lights I have nothing but side lights.

I tried a different switch with same result.
Fuses all checked and fine
Switches 3 yellow relays around under fuse box and got same result.

Symptoms prior to failure include -CD player going off when flashing headlights) Is this due tothe harness?
and, the switch gets very hot, which Iam guessing is too much resistance due to the insufficient wiring harness.

Priority is to get lights back on...Can anyone help?

If you're getting odd behaviour as with your CD player, it would suggest to me that there might be something as simple as an earthing problem. Check the earths for proper contacts.

As 110SEB says above and also personally I would check your battery terminals are tight and making good contact positive as well as neutral. Hope it gets sorted soon

Sounds like a frazzled switch/stalk to me. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Thanks for the quick responses.

I am confident the battery terminals are good and I have tried using a different switch but had the same trouble.

Where do the headlights Earth too?

Do the dipped lights have any relation to the main beam/flash switch as this has evidence of where I think that switch overheats, but is this enough to prevent dipped lights working?

I'm confused...Ill check the Earth tonight if you can help me identify where to look.

For anyones future reference....the problem was diagnosed as a faulty main beam/indicator stalk.

A quick trial of a new stalk fixed the problem straight away. It appears that there is a common +ve that runs through both switches and if that fails, you lose light

Just in time for the dark nights. Thanks for everyones help.
