I think so Darcy! I always liked the old black grills, the matt ones, so was at the back of my mind. And as you pointed out, a black satin one would match the roof nicely But, I would most likely leave the bonnet script in silver. Might even try to source it in Indus silver and replace the Brunel letters - saw this combination of satin black grill/surrounds and bright silver Defender script on an Autobiography when I went to collect mine and loved the combination. We shall see

Sounds good mate, got black checquer plate on my wing tops and that contrast looks great. Will do my surrounds and grille when I can. Will probably get a set of black blindos wheels too to finish the look. Good luck and keep the pics coming would like to the script/grille contrast
Cheers mate, D |

What I'm considering is going body coloured surrounds but keeping the Brunel grill, and then toning down the bonnet lettering by going black. Worried it might look an uncoordinated dogs dinner - but I'm thinking the front end look would be reminiscent of the early series that didn't have head light surrounds.
edit: already got black chequer wing tops ordered + the black hinged headlight protectors. |

@ Darcy - just checked the one photo you have looks nice indeed! I thought they may get a little lost on such a dark colour, but you're right, they actually suit it very well. Blindos - not cheap I have to say, but saw couple shots of them here on the forum and they look apart. It's also the size, that they come in 16 inch, that looks spot on on Defenders. Give us some more pictures mate when you got time
@ apt - I'm sure it won't be an uncoordinated dogs dinner I can actually see how it could work out to look classic. Maybe I would keep the lettering silver, but lets see how it looks - make sure you post some pictures. There's a guy on the forum, Kitoper, who installed body coloured surrounds recently to his Keswick 110 and it does give it a classic look! http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic19961-90.html |

Yeah, I see what you mean, indus would certainly stand out more than brunel and with an understated grille and light surround would be quite striking.

I have finally managed to get some goodies fitted to her and also take the pictures
Top and side vents from Optimill - great product and excellent service. They came with some tamper proof ss fixings which was nice addition. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Optimill bonnet hinges Click image to enlarge Noldens - superb headlights from Brendan, worth every penny. Click image to enlarge And finally a rather subtle improvement, but a good partner for long journeys and helps with getting better mpg - cruise control. Bought from Tim @ Mobile Centre and installed by Julian at Auto Tec - excellent auto electrician, fabulous service. Top blokes Click image to enlarge I also got some lovely carpet mats with Land Rover ingots from Dan @ Duckworth. They look great, but hidden under rubber ones and covered by dirt and sand. So picture some other time when she is cleaned - perhaps before the Tribute event this weekend if I have a chance to get her into tip top condition MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html MY16 Santorini 90 HT - sold Last edited by jk84 on 11th Aug 2015 3:14pm.
