grating / chirping noise at front of engine
Initially thought it was the idler pulley, replaced that yesterday with genuine replacement (when I took it off it did grind when I spun the pulley so thought this must be source of noise!!).
But no, noise still there so must be another pulley but which one?? or it is something totally different but I have no idea what.
Any thoughts?
btw- drives well!

Did you replace the belt too? Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Hi Dave
belt was replaced last year with LR one...would that make the noise?

Possibly, we get it on the Transit variant all the time.
Replacement belt and wipe of all pulleys with degreaser usually solves it ...

Try that first before anything dearer ... Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Crank pulley has a tendency to chirp when switching off engine but I suppose could do it more if it's got to the grinding stage. There's a good Description on discovery2 forum under fixes. Ray

Went and saw local independent who used a stethoscope and identified the pulley that drives the water pump and I think he said also the power steering. When he spun it it sounded rough and it is booked in for investigation next week. Reluctant to drive it though Sad

Up date;
it turned out to be the power steering pump. that has been changed and is now a pleasure again to drive without the noise Very Happy
