Did you replace the belt too? Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Possibly, we get it on the Transit variant all the time.
Replacement belt and wipe of all pulleys with degreaser usually solves it ... Try that first before anything dearer ... Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Crank pulley has a tendency to chirp when switching off engine but I suppose could do it more if it's got to the grinding stage. There's a good Description on discovery2 forum under fixes. Ray

Went and saw local independent who used a stethoscope and identified the pulley that drives the water pump and I think he said also the power steering. When he spun it it sounded rough and it is booked in for investigation next week. Reluctant to drive it though

Up date;
it turned out to be the power steering pump. that has been changed and is now a pleasure again to drive without the noise |
