Enjoy it! May your issues disappear into insignificance when you collect, and hopefully the stupid grin that is a free accessory and also the feeling of excitement and satisfaction descend upon you as you drive away! I still experience those now despite the vehicle being S H I T E as Greeni stated, to which I wholeheartedly concur!  If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

@ cupboard, Me too. But I think we're becoming less numerous every day.
When I first came on to this forum, I remember a debate about the direction that Land Rover were taking with the DC100 prototype and how Mr McGovern was defiantly saying it "wouldn't appeal to the traditionalists" etc. I just watched an old Land Rover history programme, presented by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and part way in, there was Mr McGovern with a curly 'do and baggy suit, looking like the singer of Simply Red. All credit to the man, as he's climbed his way up in the automotive industry. However, I couldn't help but think, there's a man who's more driven by trendiness, than anything timeless and classic. And now, it seems like a large percentage of Defender buyers are wanting things that are currently trendy: Huge rims, which mean low profile tyres, which mean a deterioration in all-terrain usefulness. Luxury interiors, which are by their very nature, more fragile. I wouldn't dream of hosing out a Defender with leather seats and plush carpets. Or using it for wading through water. Therefore, again, a potential deterioration in all-terrain usefulness. Limo tint windows; I've driven vehicles with a max tint on the windows and reversing at night is always dodgy, so yet again, that isn't going to help the vehicle in any kind of off-road low light situation. There's nothing wrong with wanting any of these luxury car features, but they're all things that are fundamentally changing what a Defender really is, and a luxury car -it is not. And any way, even with all the soundproofing etc in the world, it's still gonna be a leaky (I guess if it were watertight it would float, rather than wade), tall, unrefined Defender. I understand K9F's attempts to point this out, as otherwise a lot of new owners could end up really disappointed. I was wrong, the DC100 will probably do fine; and I'm not interested in trendy, in fact I'm already looking for a wheezy old slow Series to replace my Defender. |

As others have said, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe ask the dealer for a gesture of good will and some accessories thrown in or just try to forget it. As Greeni and K9F said Defenders really are a pile of *hite when looked at critically. In this day and age we shouldn't suffer from rear crossmembers that fall apart within 5 years unless pampered and duff gearbox extension shafts and bubbling corrosion on windscreen surrounds and rusting bumpers and and and.... Yes I love mine most of the time, however I'm not too precious about it as they are what they are a outdated, roughly built utility vehicle. However with care and maintenance they will outlast pretty much anything out there as long as you are prepared to invest time and money. Jonno |

I think a lot of people will be disappointed and because production is ending will have bought them on a whim only to regret their decision later on. I don't think these so called trendy vehicles will hold their value anything like the more more traditional ones. Trends come and go, certainly for the true diehard defender enthusiasts, they look for tradition over trend! I've got a 200tdi and a new 2.2 and have to say the 200tdi has way more character than the new 2.2, it drives how a Land Rover was supposed to drive. |

I can really see the appeal of a nice 200 or 300tdi. I'd been looking at early Defenders in left hand drive, and series Landies too and have found myself a nice, low mileage, 109 Station Wagon, so I'm excited like a kid. I'd have taken an early Defender if I'd found a nice unmolested one, but didn't succeed.
Soon I'll be holding up traffic all over Europe, as mopeds shoot past me... |

I saw loads of Sawtooth wheels when I did the tour too... I assumed maybe wrongly that LR had ordered x thousand of these from their suppliers, supplier tools up to create x thousand and delivers them when required, when JLR have sold them they're gone, so if you ordered early, you get Sawtooths, you order late, you get what's left.
Suppose there maybe a certain amount of exclusivity & prestige involved too to keep their retail price up, but once you've dragged the face of them along a rock or spun and scratched them in a muddy rutted track they'll look gash in a few years anyway. I asked JLR support on here to help spec Dual Finish alloys as the dealer couldn't add them as an option, but there is *no way* I'd have canceled the car if I couldn't get them, I'd have "wiped my minge"  and got on |

I was in a similar boat so opted for the contrast black roof & tinted glass. Bought the Sawtooths off Beadles LR Sidcup for £1k incl the centre caps (watch out for that trick!) & supplying dealer swapped tyres over during PDI.
Personally, the "experience" would have been tarnished had I not bought the wheels but I'm sure I would have gotten over it! Get them fitted one way or another Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Thought k9f was being a little over the top and harsh. But the more I think about it the more I think your right.
Don't ask us it's your money. Don't get stuck with an out of date truck that will rot and ruin your back. There's been a lot of people who buy and sell quick and the dealers are laughing. Defenders aren't for looks they are for defendering or in my case attacking stumps, the stump won. |
