Injector seals
Hi , can any one advice I have a noisy injector knock more so when under load , I've removed the top engine cover and all the injectors have a pool of diesel around them , there's no visual leak so I'm thinking its the seals . what's involved in replacing the seals is it a DIY job . Also is it possible for oil to leak out of the inlet manifold , I have a leak and it looks like its from there . Thanks for your time Daz ..

I'm having one of mine done by a garage tomorrow. Apparently it's easy but I am not brave enough to do it.

Just done this on mine Daz.

Not a tough job to carry out as long as the injectors lift out......No 4 would not budge on mine, it wasn't leaking so in theory it didn't need to come out so I left it as is.

Essentially the copper seals at the bottom of the injectors go hard over time - and start to leak which pushes up the injector and out of the top (rubber seal.)
The copper seals cost a fortune from LR and I think mine cost £5 for 4 delivered off the bay as opposed to £64 from LR!

The parts you need are 2 x stretch bolts, 4 x rubber seals ( got genuine ones of these,) and the 4 x copper seals.
It's handy to have a trim removal tool to get under the plastic clips that hold the loom in place.

When you remove the injectors keep them in order as they are coded.
Try and clean the black carbonised crud off inside the head / injector bore, we used an oil drain pump to suck it out one person pumping one person hoovering.
Clean the injectors so the bottoms are nice and shiny, I used an old scotch brite pad just be careful not to rub to hard around the pointed tip.
If an injector will not come out be careful as they can snap so decide if it really needs to come out, if it does I would be tempted to use a specialist removal Co, just do a google search for your local area.
Clean the up copper seal seat (bit of wire wool on a long bit extension attached to a cordless drill did it for me but others will probably have better ideas.)
When you replace the stretch bolts just nip them up to 6nm.
Get your Gen parts of Dan at Duckworths, he does a deal for Def2.

A link of when I replaced mine is here... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic36627-30.html

Good luck.
