Keep the one you have and spend the money on a refurb if needed and some new mods. At 30.000 miles its just run in! For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I love my 2.2 and as I've said before prefer it to the 2.4 I borrowed but the difference is negligible and the 2.2 does have the ePF other have had issues with.
So there, two people two different views Just to come back to the question though would I swap if I were you? No I don't think I would. 30k miles is nothing and the cost of the change to a new one would buy a lot of upgrades to the one you have. It's got to be £10k to swap and get basically the same car. Start another thread "how would you spend £10k improving a 30k miles Defender" and see which looks more fun That said I just swapped but that was because I do loads of miles and wanted one fairly near to the end of production so when I keep it it will have less miles on it. If I did low miles and had one I was happy with I would enhance it. Bunnyman,
I have a 2.2 and am very happy with it, but as others have said I think it would be throwing money away with a negligible difference between the two. As such, keep the 2.4 and give me the 10k to continue my upgrades (I need 15k to finish my list if you're feeling generous...). Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey Last edited by Grenadier on 25th May 2015 2:29pm. Edited 1 time in total |

10k?
If you were to spend it on: - a mild tune - HD your drivetrain (not really needed, just to make a point) - transparent wrap the entire vehicle - add a glove box - upgrade the lighting - upgrade the interior - soundproofing it (which is what I would never spend money on) - upgrade the sound system - get some rustproofing You'll have a better car the new one will ever be and still have money to spare... |

Add to that list some 'Landy Glass' (using that brand name might get the JLR police knocking at my door I know ) but I think its the best mod you can have http://www.vehicleglazingspecialists.com/ For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

people love the trucks they drive, no one will say my brand new 2.2 is not as good as my previous 2.4, same for td5, then you have the 200/300 brigade (no ecus, I can fix it with a hammer)
i guess hard facts are what you need; 2.4's used to suffer with clutches, rear window elements, vacuume pump gasket failure not heard anything bad about the 2.2s, they are quieter, but have the dpf stuff that would worry me, but i've not heard of any issues, i have a dpf in my BMW and in 100k its been perfect, this technology is getting more and more common and refined. |

bpman, hereby i confirm
2x 2.2 (130 and 90) both less than 15k km and both had 2x oil change due to DPF regen fuel contamination. (simply said oil overfill warning) both used for town to town trips and "farm" work, as intended by the constructor 2.4 over 2.2 for me everyday, buts that's just an opinion |

I've had both a 2.4 and now a 15 plate 2.2 and I'd say there was very little difference in them whatsoever, The only difference I can seem to recall is I'm sure my 2.4 used to pull from bottom end a little better than my 2.2 does now (used to be able to leave it in 4th coming up hill to my house whereas the 2.2 does it just not as well) but that said its only covered 1100 miles so still very tight and not bedded in yet. I'd go with the advice given above, if your happy with your current vehicle (I.e don't fancy a colour change or spec change etc) I'd stick with what you got and spend some money upgrading it! I only changed from my 2.4 cos I foolishly sold it to buy a D3! Worst thing I ever did and constantly regret it! 2009 Defender County Hard Top (gone 😞)

Very simply, I change the engine oil in my 2.4 about every 3000km. At which point in time the oil still is very transparant, and the color something like the original golden with a touch of light grey added to it.... And I have about 67k km on the clock now. I have a friend here with a well looked after 2 years old 2.2, and with more or less the same 3000 km or less after an oil change, his engine oil will be pitch black. Tells me something with a young fresh engine. Further, I remain a great believer of the phrase there is no replacement for displacement. I also do not like this DPF idea and the diesel mixing with the engine oil, but must admit I do not know of anybody who had the thing really break down on him. Guess if you care about longevity of a 2.2, the message is to change the oil much much more frequently than what LR are saying you should do. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Why do cars have DPF's ? is it to remove anything harmful? do your children or grand children walk to school along side traffic?
should we ignore pollution because we want our engines to be less complicated and last longer. Well i don't know the answers but sometimes i wonder if fighting against anti pollution measures is not a little short sighted or i'm alright jack bbollockss to everyone else Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

I don't really know, to turn small particles into even smaller particles I guess? You never actually own a Defender.
