You have indeed been spoilt. Your descriptive nature "wallowing, utter , nowhere near as noisy and slow, unrefined and cheap and finally a bit put off" suggests you would probably be better off sticking with your D3 or buying a Transit Van anything but a Defender.

The thing is i really want to like it! I do like them from the outside
Your right though I am spoiled with the D3 and Freelander BUT the defender is a different animal completely and I need to get this into my head rather than trying to compare them. the inside was bloody HUGE though, very impressed with the load area. Pom |

The 110 isn't as quick as the 90, and tends to wallow more in the corners.
If you don't need the room go for a 90 - much better handling & performance (IMHO). Barney Barney D4 - 2016 Graphite, Montalcino Red Written Off - 2010 90 Hard Top, Stornoway Grey |

Pom,
My Defender has just gone in for it's second service today and I have been given a Freelander 2 with only 900 miles on the clock. The interior of the Freelander the comfort, driving position and just about everything else inside far exceeds the looks, comfort and functionality of my Defender. BUT....Here's the crux!....I bought into the heritage and marque of the Defender, if they offerred me a straight swap I would politely tell them to 'kiss my swingers!' With all the extras available if you don't like the driveability, wallowing, acceleration etc. etc. of the Defender sod it, buy something else or do what I and many others have....Change it!!! Uprated shocks, remaps etc. etc. You will be hard pushed in my opinion to buy a more versatile, malleable vehicle that you can mould it into what you want it to be, and 'make it your own!' I got immense satisfaction when the Service Manager described mine as 'looking the !" Took me a while to get there ...It doesn't wallow, goes like off a shovel, turns heads and yes I love it warts and Austin Allegro stalks 'n' all! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! Last edited by K9F on 6th Jul 2010 2:38pm. Thanks for that
I think i was expecting a D3 on crack I've done the deed and an 07 110 county utility is on its way. Now for the list of things to be done, at the top of which is getting rid of those allegro 80's Leyland stalks and replacing with d3 ones! Then the heated steering wheel ..... FBH...... oh feck Pom |

Pom If you are buying from a LR dealer push them for a free Land Rover Experience day/half day. If they will not oblige see how much a day with LRE costs, trash their vehicle whilst learning the basics not yours ! I got a free half day at LRE Honiton and have done quite a few adventure days with them as well - excellent outfit. Bob |

I had a Defender. I then had to sell and buy a "sensible" car.
Bought a BMW 530D Touring, which scores 5* on all the trade mags and is generally thought of as the dog's danglies. We all — me, wife, two daughters, dog — hated it. Had it for 4 months before we were able to trade to…a Santorini Black 110. Bliss. If I could boil it down to one thing, it's that *every* journey in the Defender is an expedition: fun, involving, slightly worrying at times, memorable. We are all very happy now. |

Notso, that's the right Defender spirit. Now, how possibly could you remain excited more than 10 seconds about any BMW product built in the last 15 years? Unless it is the 1999-2003 built Z8 of course. The only BMW which was way ahead of its era, and which still is avant garde today. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Stop trying to make the defender a car!
Its not a car, its a Defender! It doesn't drive like anything else, it is a Defender! Think of it as a road going tractor crossed with a lorry crossed with a van. Its everything and none of them. Enjoy it for what it is and what it does, not what it falls down on otherwise you would be better off buying a land cruiser and being bored to death. Enjoy the defender, have fun with it, modify it, play with it. Just don't make it a car. Its so much better than that Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

The best part of a defender is having a wing to put your cuppa on when you're working on it
