Anti roll bars do what they say on the tin Sir
Not sure about the 90 but the 110 xs has them as standard, makes it a lot better on road but slightly less axle articulation in the rough stuff. To be honest unless your doing hardcore stuff, i would spec em up You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things |

Ok doing a bit of homework on the Internet, some people say the 90 comes with anti roll bars, and some say they don't.....!?!?
Does anyone know if they are standard on a new defender 90 xs.....? Many thanks |

It all depends which wheels you get! If you have alloys (Boost or SVX style) they they come as standard.
As a 90 XS comes with alloys as standard then you will get ARB's as standard as well. Pete. |

i've got the boost alloys but no anti role bars, and when we where doing some off roading with a land rover experience instructor he could not believe how much more articulation i was getting, as we where trying to get the two wheels of the ground cross axel pic, it will make a big difference at the extreame end of things and not a big problem when on the road in my opinion, but hay i'm a guy who would not pay for traction control so why listen to me

Are they factory fit? Did you buy your truck new? Could just be somebody fitted them at a later date and didnt fit the ARB's. Or it may be something to do with you having a 110 and HD suspension? Pete |

I took them off on both the wife's TD5 90 and my Puma, much better ride on road and better suspension travel off road. Replaced the standard shocks with after market and both vehicles ride and handle very well.

I guess that could be related actually, anti-roll bars means less articulation, so the need for traction control to compensate. I was thinking of fitting anti-roll bars on mine (90 SW with standard steel wheels), but then realized that this may hinder the traction when off roading as I do not have ABS/TC fitted. There is an article on fitting anti-roll bars in LRM October issue, does not look like a hard job to do. Funny thing, he compares the end result with a standard 90 hard-top with steel wheels, and finds his considerably stiffer, but then I am not sure this one has anti-roll bars as standard as claimed in the article... |

i did buy the truck new and spec'd up the county model as the xs was just outside my financial reach at the time, when i add'd the boost alloys i was told that as a factory fit extra they came with anti roll bars, but as you can imagine looking for the arb's when i picked up my first new land rover was not at the top of my list, once i noticed i was more than ok with the ride and the off road ability, i had also read about the articulation issue so never said a thing, good point about the HD suspention, i do seem to go through rear shock bushes very quickly, the top ones seem to last about 12 months before i can movment by hand on the top of the shock |

My 90 County (steel wheels) had no ARBs, but after test driving it (on the road) I had them fitted.
My last 90 had them, and driving around in the new one without them made me & the missus feel sea sick! I take the point that if you do a lot of off-roading, you may choose to put up with the sway on road though. And I have no idea what springs I have - it is a SW, so would guess HD? |

Allan, What suspension set up are you running as I have been thinking of removing ARB's on my 90 but do not want to reduce the onroad handling. Cheers, Martin Martin 1989 90 - Truck cab, Mazda 35 SLTi engine 2009 90 - Station Wagon |
