Julia, I understand your question - it looks like your VIN is well within the range that is subject to the service action. I'd ignore whether or not you can find it on TOPIX and get it booked in for the new parts under this service action. They will take your VIN and check again online to see if it's subject to the recall. It's unlikely that's it's already been done as it is a "new" issue or rather a "new" fix. If they reject it they will give you a reason, i.e., your VIN is outside the range and maybe you have mis-read it. As i see it that's the only clarification available. There are no special customers |

Okay, I'm going to get in touch with the local Land Rover retailer.
Thanks, Ryan & Supacat. Great. |

Appears that LR Southern Africa is keeping quiet about this.
Only after I mailed them a screen grab from Topix (big thanks to Bob), did they respond. They used my engine number, rather than the VIN. "Good day you need to supply me with the engine no on the front of the timing cover it is only vehicles with post130909202010 do not install an oil pump. Pre130909202010 needs the oil pump replacement." |

Just had mine done. Took several hours. Hopefully no leaks will now appear.

Heads-up -
As of today, LR Switzerland has acknowledged and published on the Topix site the Outstanding campaigns for Defenders within the Vin Range for the Q421 Oilpump failure. The picture below speaks for itself and I will be following up with the local dealer. Click image to enlarge |

Hi, I've just had mine in for the Q421 oil pump replacement. But I questioned them about the sump and other parts and they said it was just the oil pump, oil and filter.
I read on here that it was also the sump, pump pickup and outlet pipes etc. What do think? I've dropped a message to the dealers and will see what they say. Just for peoples reference, I received a text message for me to contact the dealers, not a letter, and then they told me that I needed to bring it in for the oil pump. Thanks. |

They've lied to you. Here's a list of exactly what should be changed, and if they haven't changed ALL of these parts correctly, then you need to be having stern words with them!

Hello. Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll be giving them a ring tomorrow. This is why I wanted them to put it on paper what has been changed. Thanks again. |

Hi oburrill
Thank you for your post. I note that you are due to speak to your retailer to confirm what was completed during the recent Service Action on your vehicle and trust that they will be able to clarify this. However, should you require any additional assistance, please feel free to send me a PM and I will be happy to look into this for you. Regards Ryan |

Hi oburrill
If you have the vehicle back with you take a quick look underneath. There should be a shiny new sump as shown in the photo in the earlier reply. I picked mine up on Friday after the oil pump replacement work was completed (and some other work to try and stop the footwell leaks). There is certainly a new sump on my engine. |

Hello, thanks for the email Ryan, it's good to know that there is help there when needed.
I sent an email last night and rang the service supervisor, who I spoke to when I took it in the other day, and he said that he had it on his desk to double check and look through today and he'll let me know. On the day I asked him twice, about the sump and other parts, but said it wasn't needed. I send him the list as mentioned here, and I questioned him about it and said that they would have fitted all the parts required as part of a kit supplied to do the work. I've not had a reply from him today, and I phoned up just after 8.30am, but I can't check my emails at work, so have just checked now. To me it doesn't look like they've changed the sump, as the old sump had waxoil splattered on it, and it still does. See the attached photo. It is about 20 to 30 mins drive from the dealers, so its not dirty and it is definitely wax oil splatter that is on it. They may have changed the sump plug and put a pen mark on it. Hang on a minute, I need to have a look how to upload a photo, as I mentioned, its not shiny and it still has waxoil on it! Click image to enlarge Thanks everyone. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

That is definitely not a new sump. Mine was very obviously brand new and VERY shiny.
The dealer is definitely trying to cut corners. I would question if they replaced anything or just gave your engine sump a quick wipe with an oily cloth! Should look like this : Click image to enlarge |
