Hi Ant!
I don't think they do come with a DPF mate. I am not certain, but I think the reason is that Australian diesel fuels are not clean or refined enough and with a higher sulphur content to allow them. They do trap particulates... But if being behind some diesel burners in oz, with clouds of black sooty smoke coming out from the exhausts, I think they would block up very quickly. So I think thats the reason why? Probably all nonsense however! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

I suspect they don't because your government hasn't mandated them unlike our Euro masters.
Rather than retro fit one I would spend the cash on some champagne/whatever to celebrate the lack of this troublesome device (1). Regards C (1) lots have had problems with them especially if you tow really heavy stuff or only d very short journeys although my commute is 130 miles each way so mine has never caused any issues 2015 110 USW XS in Santorini with premium contrast leather seats in tan/black, black headlining and with Dual Finish alloys (in the garage, now on Wolf rims with Goodyear MT/Rs) 2012 '62' 2.2 X-Tech 110 USW now gone ... 1984 90 soft top with full roll cage, 200 tdi engine etc now sold 2012 USW XS 2.2 "FUU" now gone.... |

Yes, thats because they block up with diesel particulates... and then never get hot enough to burn them off.
In Oz, lots of particulates... but also lots of heat! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

DPF is one of the stupidest pieces ever legislated to be fitted: it reduces soot particles to even finer soot particles which are even more unhealthy. I suspect this blockage in otherwise normal exhaust would mean the engine needs to work harder as well, which means it needs more fuel as well. You are well of not having this piece of sh..., sorry, kit fitted.

Because we are still on EURO 4 standard.
Euro 5 is on the way, I think will be implemented by the end of this year (2015)? |

The dangerous particles result from burning atomized fuel under high pressure i.e. from common rail systems with injectors. Common rail systems are not fully reasonable for me - especially when thinking about fuel economies - since 109/110 Land Rovers have always consumed 10 liters/100 km |

I think the idea is the finer soot/carbon particles are stored in dpf then burnt again at higher temp to ash which is ment to be less unhealthy than carbon |

In Antwerp a legislation has passed banning all Euro4 without DPF or lower, aged +10 years.
By 2020, anything below Euro5 will be banned. It concerns around 15000 cars, mostly of low income people. I know I would targeted as well come 2020, but they are hitting the people who cannot afford a newer car. Amazing how (high income) politicians cannot empathy with the common man... All for the wrong reasons as well, I may add. There have been studies that driving oldtimes (+20years) damage the environment less then renewing cars too often. |

If you prefer full HP/Nm in a new Defender you'll end up with 15 liters / 100 km or even more A Series will not take that much. |

Think it is a little bit less stringent as what you say. As of 2016 for diesels is going to be allowed Euro 3 or higher. And as of 2020 it is going to be Euro 4 or higher..... So all Puma's will be ok. Banning Euro 4 any time soon would be political suicide, revolution. Here in Switzerland we take a much more pragmatic approach. There always has been an annual exhaust gas test for all cars from 2 years old required, which is entirely independent from the technical inspection. The Swiss have reasoned 2 years ago that all cars diesel and petrol which are Euro 4 or higher are supposedly built to such high emission standards, that the annual exhaust gas check requirement for those just has been canceled. We only consider Euro 3 or lower to be a emission risk, for those the annual check remains in force. Smart move, it means that my Puma won't unnecessarily be revved without load to stupidly high rpm as I know the Belgian controle technique are doing with your cars. Eric Read here about Antwerp emission decision http://www.gva.be/cnt/dmf20150508_01670166...ant-zetten You never actually own a Defender.
