So after much ado we finalised the list of works and began..

Safety first... it's always been a controversial option, the look polarising but it's a vehicle I want with me for an age, it's going places so, safety devices full external roll cage in... or on rather..

There are plenty of streets with working lights around, but sometimes, power cuts, 'human interference' and mismanagement can mean, anywhere from just round the corner to large swathes of country are unpowered. There's a saying here, each man is his own state. Look out for yourself. - Headlights upgraded. ECE Trucklites LEDs

I'm not sure if I want to see 60cms deep water in this vehicle or not. Maybe when i'm ready, but it's been known to happen here, floods sending sedans floating down city streets. An engine's gotta breathe so a little capability, practicality and design style came in with the snorkel and kbx intakes.

Even in a smaller car, around these parts one has to watch out for open gutters, pavement built to varying spec and of course just what the guy behind you considers 'acceptable space' - The reversing camera.

Haven't actually heard what the original radio/stereo unit sounds like but I also haven't found one person who's more than basically content with the base package. For those long journeys along the western coast or towards northern deserts.. A solid stereo system

This is where the real work begins. In making it capable, prepping it for where there aren't roads and roads that aren't roads.. Flatdog put some of their springs on with some OME Nitrocharge shocks. Have to say it's not all about looks, but the contrast here will work nicely with the green.

And then... the all important... Dinotrol

And to finish with, with possibly my favourite modification, the Maxxtrac Blindos hosting BF Goodrich 285/75/16 - Here we are so far
..

On next weeks episode we go inside for some comfort mods and underneath for some guards..

Hey thanks...

You know CFB, it's a strange thing, I didn't fancy the steels at first, thinking they were 'orright' but then just before they came off I started to imagine them with 265s, I thought hang on... but then they were gone... Wink
If i had a white contrast roof though, like this road warrior over here:

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic35647.html

no question, steel would have been the real deal.

GypsySamant's got me thinking about names - traditionally speaking, do most people name their vehicles or is that just mostly an overlanding thing? Also, when to do it, at first sight or after your first 1k.

Cheers TJ

Roz Dev! I reckon ours will be cousins when this is done. I thought the front was definitely higher too but apparently it's a case of a mild slope and the shadows - The trick i was told was to measure from the top of the wheel to the bottom of the fender. How you getting on with yours?

Shaggy, one of the reasons for me getting this (other than it's a brilliant vehicle for purpose) was the learning i wanted to come about by it.. that one day I could take to reworking it like a duck to water, kudos on your restoration journey, hope it turns out better than you got it. Thumbs Up

Guards Guards!! Seize that vehicle!

This for me is definitely an area where prevention is better than cure. The vehicle is lifted by about an inch but the going is going to be fair to rough and changeable. If the underneath is going to take hits it better have some armour on. So...

The Diff Guard

Fuel Cooler guard.

Overly curious person guard.. AKA privacy glass

Side Steps..
Me: Flatdog can you do these for me in full matte black?
Flatdog: Course we can.
And so these are coming back in powder coated black.
Just an ever increasing big thank you to the team at Flatdog. They have been detailed, patient, tenacious and thorough on the build. We'll see how it goes when the driving is done but as far as putting the vehicle together on my spec, there's nothing they haven't done well.

Also going on were shocks, springs and steering damper. The shocks are Old Man Emu Nitrocharger matched with Flatdog springs, the damper is OME too. Other contenders were Koni Heavy track raid and Blistens which I heard are really good. Not sure how one would go about making a selection without having tried them other than by recommendation.. and how many people have tried a variety..

Finally a Mantec swingaway

Later this week.. we round up the electrics in the vehicle, put in one or two specialised items, comfort and cosmetic finishings... some engine work and then... the grand unveiling..

The Evolution continues...

Hello from another Keswick owner.
I see that you have chequer plate on the wing tops, I'd suggest the same on your sills, to at least protect the paint, when getting in & out, of the vehicle.
