Canada 1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Belize Green
1999 TD5 110
I recently imported a vehicle from Germany to Canada. It has 96,000 km on the Odometer.

I took the vehicle off road, did some extreme offroading a week after getting it. Now i've noticed a few things, maybe they were there before or not.

1) Sometimes when I brake coming to a harder stop, i hear something sliding like I had a box in the back sliding to the front and stopping. What could this be?

2) Brake squeal on RH Rear brake. I was thinking to rebuild all the brakes with stainless pistons, Good Idea or not? The shop here told me that alot of the time they dont rebuild and just get new calipers because the brake pads wear down the inside of the caliper and the pads slop around (is this BULLSh!t?)

3) When I'm driving and i let go of throttle and get back on throttle abruptly, I feel a clunk on the back drive shaft??? The shop here told me it's a weak point of the Defender, some splines on the drive shafts??

Thanks!!

1) If you don't have anything loos in the 110, look in the boxes below the front seats maybe there is something loose. Battery maybe?

2) Refurbishing the break calipers is time consuming so if you have to pay somebody to do it it might be cheaper to buy new ones. It is not that difficult however so if you are going to do it yourself stainless pistons is a good idea, but I doubt that they are really rusted.

3) Can be severall things but most off the time it is play in the balljoint above the rear axle.

Hope this helps. Roel
