After a bad experience with a Discovery 2 I vowed never to buy second hand again, my 1998 Defender I bought new has been fantastically reliable, so when they announced the end of Defender production, I decided I need a new one. As has been mentioned on another thread, Defenders coming to Australia are generally of a high spec, with metallic paint, leather, alloys etc none of which interested me. To order one of a base spec meant I would have to wait, and wait, and after five months it arrived. I am impressed so far, much quieter and more powerful than the TDi. I must get it dirty soon.

A shame they are illegal, but I suppose you don't have kangaroos roaming your roads at night. I drive a lot at night and worry about hitting wildlife and being stranded by a ruined radiator, hundreds of kilometres from anywhere. I will be fitting driving lights soon, like my old Defender.

Haha definitely not kangaroos
![]() Well, careful driving then! And keep the pictures coming. For the lights inspiration you should check Gunbus' thread, very impressive light set up he has - I bet he would notice kangoroos from hundreds of miles if he were in Oz. Having said that, lots of other chaps on here that have some respectful lights on! |

Fitted some spot lights and a Mud glove box. Replaced the rear fog light with an additional reversing light, I seldom drive in fog but often reverse in the dark. Also got it dirty for the first time, at the Ourimbah State Forest.

Looks great. How did you go about fitting the 2nd reverse light? Was it a case of replacing the red lens for a white one then just switch it on when needed using the fog switch? Pete

PCA 42, I just fitted a lense on the fog light, so need the headlights on to make it work. It came with a red bulb, but I am not using it.
I recently fitted a light bar, just like my TDi, but they are cheaper now and come with wiring and relay.
