Now, I know we're not meant to talk about politics, sex or religion, less so all at the same time (unless it is one of Laurie's great jokes... ) but in the words of Baldrick 'I have a cunning plan...'. So bare with me.
I think we, as Defender owners, should do everything we can to ensure UKIP get into Parliament. The reason? Well, as we all know, one of their main policies is to withdraw the UK from the EU and it therefore occurred to me that by doing so Land Rover would no longer be beholden to EU regulation and so could continue production of our beloved Defender!!! It might sound far-fetched, but it has to be true. And no doubt if Farage was aware, red-blooded Englishman that he is , he would indeed have popped it into his manifesto. The fact that it isn't shouldn't stop any of us who us registered doing what is right to Save Our Defender. So you know what to do, you know where to put your tick. Now, on to some thoughts on sex and religion..... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Crikey man, to save the Defender? On St George's Day? I would never, conscionably, suggest anyone vote for any party, but these are dire times my friend. Needs must, supreme sacrifice, whatever it takes and all that. They could make a movie out of it. Forget Martin Luther King's Million Man March or some B-list celeb saving Pandas, this could be the most memorable and important mobilisation of people, extolling the benefits of democracy, seen since Cadbury brought back the Wispa. Will no-one join me on this revolution? Where's everyone's Spitfire Spirit? I despair. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Not looked at any figures but don't the lease deals all have significant deposits?
Purchase or lease, you're still going to get smacked down hard by the depreciation, aren't you? |

Trouble is with lease is you never own it and HP often or not by the time it's paid for the vehicle isn't worth a lot or not on the road even.
Most LR's are though I know. HP and swapping over ever few years more or less means you are permanently paying indefinitely really. I'm not quipping RR owners of course not but I'm just saying it doesn't stack up having a country so called on its uppers yet certain people are buying super expensive luxuries at a record rate be it out right credit or what ever form. HP isn't cheap anyway either. What is a vogue RR now a month? £399 + deposit? |

Ah but if the plan comes to fruition and the lunatics got in JLR would be free to sell the assembled elsewhere for sale outside of the EU regulatory region Defenders that will start rolling off the production line in 2017.... Farage owns and drives a Range Rover so he probably does not give a stuff about Defenders! And if ever his party got enough seats to swing a balance of power it would be with the Torys, and then with the massive cutbacks planed none of us would be able to afford to own a Defender For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Its not just the EU that's stopping the defender, its one of very few vehicles still in the country. And they sell so very few of them. Cost of building time taken to build these are all factors to stop making them too. The defender simply isn't making them any cash, even in after sales. Most defender owners are handy with tools. Meaning that servicing and repairs don't see much profit.
I share the sentiment but, ill never vote UKIP just to keep the defender. Change is needed and the land rover heritage image will always be what it is, and these defenders, ninety's, one ten's and series will all live on due to people like us. |

Forgive my ignorance but am I right that it's due to airbags they are stopping it? Or is it more than that again?
