Lifting bonnet off is simplicity itself, takes all of a few seconds.
Get someone to help you, one either side of bonnet. tilt it vertical, you then can lift each side a few inches higher to dis-engage the hinge. Push out the shim and push in replacement. Drop that hinge back in and do same with other side. Will take you 3 minutes maximum Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

I agree with the above. Definite two man job to lift off the bonnet though.

I have done it on my own in the past by lifting the bonnet vertical then wedging it with a couple of broom handles against the front slam panel. Then tying a length of rope round the bonnet, through the drivers and passenger doors open windows and knotting it tight. Try passing it through the windows twice for extra security.
It works, but I would still recommend a second person to help early bonnets were quite light but puma bonnets are heavy bugg*rs to lift and move about with on your own. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

The broom handles would work well. To be honest you just need to lift one side at a time, whilst holding the bonnet vertical.
The slot in the bushes is off centre, and needs to be at the top when the bonnet is closed, otherwise the bonnet will sit too close to the wings and rub off the paint. Click image to enlarge |

Why not just unscrew the bonnet hinge bolts and lift the hinge and remove it that way one at a time. Took just a couple of minutes to do mine that way.

A lot heavier, old style bonnets were made out of birmabright with metal stiffeners. Puma bonnets are almost double skinned steel. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

That was what I was thinking but seems a little precarious. Would need something like a towel or something to avoid bonnet damaging anything too. When I changed the bolts on the hinges to SS I replaced one at a time in situ but taking the whole hinge off isn't quite as simple as that. |

Steve, I have changed hinges for security hinges without removing bonnet. Used a length of 4 by 4 and just propped both sides up just enough to get arm under. Just make sure you have something under the bonnet at bulkhead end so it does not drop.
Check fit of bonnet after each hinge. Brendan |

When I replaced mine unscrewing just the hinges I did support the edge of the bonnet with an old towel, but my bonnet is raised with gas struts which give it more rigidity when raised.
