Try lubricating the spindles in the bulkhead.
They frequently get tight due to rain penetration. |

Lubricate the spindles, wheelboxes, rack, and motor gearbox. It will be like having new wipers!

Cheers guys - I WD40'd the spindles last night but wipers needs a helping hand (literally) to move today. Does the dash need to come out to get to the motor and workings?

Yes, to do a proper job.
I can't really advise on the Td5 though since I have a TDCi. |

The motor is easy enough to get to but it really isn't that much harder to whip the dash top off too to get in.
See here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f41/wiper-bo...99743.html I would disconnect the motor and turn the wipers by hand and see what the problem is. As you move the wipers add loads of 3-in-1 (or similar) oil to both slush the crap out and the replace it with oil. WD40 evaporates so I always think 3-in-1 is better. The shaft goes through a pipe about 1.5 inches so it will take more oil than you might think to flush the crap out and replace it with oil. The good news is new wiper boxes are cheap. While you are feeling all mechanical do the same with the rear one preventatively. I had a rear wiper sieze part way through a wipe and the first I knew was the car filling up with smoke as the motor tired to force the siezed arm. Good luck. Thanks guys, Had the top of the dash off today to get lube into the wiper boxes. Took the plate off the wiper motor and it looks clean and well greased. Grinding noise coming from driver side spindle that wont go no matter how much GT85 I spray in there. Have ordered new cable and both spindles/boxes and pick up tomorrow.
Question: Once the wipe arm nut is removed should the wiper arm just pull off? I cant get it move but not sure if its corroded on or there a nack Cheers |

Yes, but you often need mechanical assistance. I use a very small puller, but in an emergency slip joint pliers often do the trick.

I have used a pry bar and a piece of wood, just make sure the wood is resting on the bulkhead and not on the flap as I managed to slightly bend a flap hinge hence yet another draught until I straightened it out

Thanks for the advice guys Actually they seems a lot better after a night to soak up the GT85 so I've put it back to together with wipers working well again. I've ordered new wiper spindles and cable to go in the spares box for when it gives up again

Wiper boxes don't seem the best on the td5s. And they're bloody hard to lubricate with them
In place. |

Yes they are difficult to lubricate in place! and could I find a WD40 red straw anywhere?!

WD40 is good for freeing things off and cleaning them, but pants at providing long term lubrication. I use it (well, a non branded equivalent that's half the price) to clean things, then put something a bit better in like a spray grease.
