Welcome Gerry,
Defenders lack a headlight relay, meaning that the headlight power runs up the steering column to the switch. In time the switch melts and has to be replaced. I suggest you fit a relay for both the headlights and the spotlights. Take the power directly from the battery. You could of course just fit a relay for the new spots and leave the headlights, but in time the switch will fail. Here in Oz there is a fellow www.traxide.com.au/HL_KITS.html supplying relay kits (headlights only or combination headlights & spotlights), but you should be able to source something closer to home. Dgardel one of our other members posted a link to his downloads some time ago, there is a complete set of wiring diagrams therein. Follow the link: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2239.h...+downloads Austen, if I am right it is Baldy's intention of tapping off the main beam to operate an auxilliary relay for the spots. I did the same! Yes, I think that's what he intends to do. I did this with a TD5 too, but the switch melting problem remains.

Yeah totally agree,
Seperate wiring for the spots is definately 'best trade practice' and the safest thing to do especially with the extra current draw. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Thanks guys, yes I should have said it will be via a relay and I want to pick up the main beam to fire the relay. Interesting there is no headlight relay, probably worth sticking one in while I'm at it.

Hi Folks,
can anyone help with a set of english manuals for a Puma - LHD for preference if there is a choice, i'm trying really hard to learn French at the moment (perfect and imperfect tenses anyone?) let alone Italian, that would fry my three remaining brain cells. I'm going to fit an alarm soon so a wiring diagram would be really helpful  . Also a copy of the drivers handbook would be cool as I didn't get one with the car.
Going to fit a Mantec wheel carrier tomorrow weather permitting.
