I hope that that is the product of an over-active rumour mill! Guy is great at the sort of programmes he has made, but a Top Gear-like programme - no way! |

I quite like James May's words at the end of a doorstep "interview" after finding out Clarkson was sacked, "Much as I think he's a knob, I quite like working with Jeremy."

Definition of condone: "accept (behaviour that is considered morally wrong or offensive). synonyms: deliberately ignore, not take into consideration, disregard, take no notice of, take no account of, accept, allow, make allowances for, let pass, turn a blind eye to, overlook, forget, wink at, blink at, connive at;" I would say that you admitting to signing the petition to keep him at the BBC did exactly the opposite of what you are now saying. Dispite the thread title, he was not sacked, the BBC have just decided not to renew his contract, so he's still a BBC employee/contractor until the end of this month. It's an important distinction. Anyone hear the Radio 4 interview yesterday morning with Alan Yentob, Creative Director. He was asked if Clarkson wasn't being sacked following this, then what did someone have to do to get sacked from the BBC? It certainly seems the BBC took the expeditious route out of this mess. "Mr Hall praised Clarkson’s “extraordinary contribution” to Top Gear. “Voices like his have an important place on the BBC but not at any price,” the BBC boss said. “Violence accompanied by prolonged verbal abuse crosses a line.” Does that suggest that violence alone would have been OK? From reading the BBC statement two things surprise me: 1. JC was allowed to rant and rave for so long with nobody around him prepared to step in. 2. The producer took himself to hospital - nobody went with him. James May has made a couple of interesting programmes outside of TG but Hammond will hopefully disappear back to regional radio where he came from. Both only got other TV series following a previous contract re-negotiation when they both complained about the pay disparity between themselves and JC. I'm hoping that the BBC will now make a new Top Gear for genuine petrol heads and not pander to the viz mentality it had sadly descended to. One of the reasons already quoted in this thread for liking the programme was the quality of the production (rumoured to be some of the most expensive TV the BBC makes). If this continues then hopefully it can attact the same viewing figures as before, albeit a mostly different audience. Last edited by Supacat on 26th Mar 2015 10:33am. Edited 2 times in total |

Don't let the facts get in the way of the point you are making - JC reported himself; are you saying that if a sex pervert did the same then the BBC would act differently? |

He certainly is riding two horses - supporting senior management but distancing himself from the actual decision... |

Yet again (yawn) you only give half an argument, if you are going to the trouble to google and look up a word before you analyse the structure and meaning of a group of words, then make sure you know which word in the group has the emphasis. Copy and pasting synonyms is a bit lame and gives little point to your criticism. Plus by doing so you are treating all who read your post as idiots. It may come as a shock to you but I can say without fear of contradiction that all members of this forum know what the word 'condone' means.
You cannot quote other peoples words in a passage in isolation so it matches your thinking and then place your own spin on it. The opinion given links to what I felt is the double standards of Lord Hall’s comments. Your self-reasoning reply as to my meaning is a little odd! gilarion - you said:

The same as another poster in this thread. You cannot quote other peoples words in a passage in isolation so it matches your thinking and then place your own spin on it. The opinion given links to what I felt is the double standards of Lord Hall’s comments. Where have you been this last two years re Operation Yewtree and the people who were employed at the BBC of which the latest person charged this week was Neil Fox. My words 'who knows how many presently' are open to interpretation and are not intended as an indictment but a generalist view. Though when the findings of the governments ‘Independent inquiry into child sexual abuse’ are given to the public then we may know more as to what has and is happening at our state broadcaster. Until then ‘who knows’ is an adequate response. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Actually, I can, and did quote your words. They don't look any different and weren't out of context. You clearly stated that the BBC still employs paedophiles - I think you'll find that it's you who wants to put a different meaning on your words and my views are immaterial.
It's a non sequitur that anyone wouldn't want to condone any sort of illegal behaviour particularly anything child related. How that is relevant in a discussion about Clarkson's behaviour evades me I'm afraid. That people might still be defending him disappoints me but, sadly, it doesn't surprise me. 2015 Urban Truck 90XS in Havana (previously 2013 D4 XS in Fuji White) (previously 2011 D4 XS in Stornaway Grey, auto, black leather, reversing camera and removable tow bar) (previously 2011 Freelander 2, blue (Mrs B's) (previously 2007 TDV6 D3 SE Zermatt Silver, auto, black leather, an Uncle Ray plate and AT2s) (previously 2001 Freelander One, blue) (previously 1967 Series 2, Green) |

Can you name the people who are still defending him?
I find it unusual that you cannot understand the words 'who knows' and are deciphering them to mean it appears ‘definitely do’. The only inference to these people I made re Clarkson was Lord Halls comment on ‘decency at the BBC’ as an integral and part of the ethos of that organisation, the BBC is now seen as an establishment that employed persons who were not decent at all and the BBC allowed their actions by knowing and not acting, that is now fact. My post relating to that comment could not have been made clearer. The comment by Lord Hall on ‘Decency at the BBC’, has also been taken up by many others on twitter feeds and forums owing to the fact what has gone on at the BBC in the past, those actions are still fresh in many of the public’s minds so it was an unfortunate turn of phrase to use. Lord Hall as an academic should know all about irony. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |
