Well I take it your dealer is Morrisons of Stirling.
Well we my Td5 warrenty ran out and the dealer in aberdeen offered me an extended one I said no because they were  and I know that it wasn't worth the paper it is writen on.
Howevery due to the level of service I have recieved since buying my 2011MY 110 USW from Morrisons of Stirling I don't think I'll have any problem with excepting an extended warrenty from them (once I know what is covered and what isn't). Russell |

Yes, it is Morrisons... it goes in this week for a new sidebar/step. front grille and rear panel is to be painted. The offer of extended warranty was vague and would need to study both policies but to be honest i do a low annual mileage (3000) and the Defender is 100% as new so i may decline their offer and put the ££'s in a jar. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Red-Dot I will be in the same position next year, my Defender has been one of the good ones and I think I can trust her to continue giving me good service £600 is quite a significant amount really if you too have a goodun! Especially with the low mileage you cover!
You may decide to possibly sell it again, is the extended warranty transferrable?  If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

K9F... Yes i believe so and i think it goes with the vehicle.. I would ideally like to sell it and my Discovery2 Commercial and buy a Discovery3/4 Commercial in place of the two. I have never been without a Defender type since 1974 and that is what is holding me back.
I would take the warranty out but i would be an angry Scot if it were money down the drain. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS.. |

Well I didnt go for it, instead I got a very good indie to go all over the car just before the warranty ran out, it then went in to the main dealer for recall/ sort out defective central locking. Approx a fortnight after this and the warranty expiring the rear wheel bearings failed, cost £400 to repair damage. Go figure. Pimped black '07 Puma

My wararanty ran out on 1st Sep, and I haven't taken out an extended one. My Puma seems to be a good one, it was in for service/MoT in August and the only warrantiable things I needed fixed were rusty headlamp retaining rings, and a couple of rusty bolts on the A-pillar. They also did the leaking tranfer box oil seal recall at the same time.

Personally I don't think the cost of the additional warranty is justifiable with the low mileage you cover! With the misfortune of the wheelbearings and the £400 he had to shell out, my first question would be "Are wheelbearings covered?" Even so if he has no more issues he's still £200 up by my reckoning and if wheelbearings are not covered he could have been £1000 out of pocket! Don't think I'll be taking out additional warranty! If I get the job I'm after I'll get a car too, so pressure will be off the Defender a little! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I agree totally.. you pay the £500+ for a warranty then nothing goes wrong you are well out of pocket... you takes a risk and it pays off, i'm happy. It is nice not having nothing to pay.
I had a M3 years ago and they had horror stories about engines, diffs and coil springs so i offloaded it before the warranty run out.. I know my way around Defenders and between myself and an Indy 10m away we will get through any problems that hopefully won't occur next year. Warranties are really insurance policies based on known figures of claims and insurance is legalised theft?? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS.. |

Agree totally 100% especially with your last sentence!
Extended warranty or not! Either way it's a gamble and going on history of my vehicle a gamble worth taking in my view not to take up the offer! However if you've a 'problematic vehicle' as several do on here I think I would bite their arm off if it was likely I would be needing drive gear work rectifying! For example differentials or gearboxes! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

The advantage is when the warranty runs out you dont have to take it to the dealers - which has to be the single best reason not to get it

This is what I thought, and have done - bank the £600, take out a relay breakdown cover, and if anything goes wrong take it to a trusted independent and deal with the cost. Also, if you are planning to keep the vehicle for another 2 or 3 years, the same question will arise each time - so you may have 2 or 3 x£600 in your pot to cover repairs in that period... |
