Cracked exhaust manifold
Big Cry
The '07 TDCi's exhaust manifold has cracked and is dumping a nice load of soot onto the heat shield, together with a super shrilling ear-piercing scream when I floor it from a cold start - do I really drive like that? Twisted Evil
So new manifold required but... Is there something better than the standard manifold? Don't want it to crack again! Improved gaskets? (I've seen a Nakatanenga manifold to turbo gasket for instance to help stop the 'turbo whistle' problem.) Probably going to upgrade the turbo to VGT at some point as there is more to give from this engine yet, but can't be cracking the manifold again as fixing it it seriously dents the upgrade funds!

No help, but can I ask if you are running standard exhaust and cat?

I'm wanting to bin my cat, as I believe it's the cause of problems, as it slows the hot gases escaping due to its restriction.

Standard exhaust system, although I'm now going to put a stainless one in seeing as it's getting all the work done on it to replace the manifold. I had it remapped a couple of years ago - changed the driving completely! Pulls like a train and eats uphills like nothing I've known.
Not easy to take photos of the crack with everything in place but I will grab a photo soon if poss. Nasty looking with all the soot that has squeezed through it. Might have the manifold painted before it is put in with some high temp stuff.
