I personally wouldn't bother with camera gear other than a camera phone.
Lighting conditions are very poor inside the areas you are allowed to take photos. I wasn't asked to leave phones at reception and was told that photos are allowed late in the tour so to keep phones and cameras with us.... i had actually left mine in the cubby box, so ran back to the carpark before jumping in the bus |

Me and the missus went yesterday - and even she was impressed. As already said, its amazing how labour intesive the manufacture of the Defender actually is. Having pulled my Series One to bits and rebuilt it I know its a big meccano kit, but you don't realise how big.
Surprised to see the number of ladies who work there building Defenders too (I am not going to risk a comment on that though...) Also the mock up of the original production line was interesting, but I was not sure of the mock up for the water leak testing area, I mean, it is a mock up isn't it? just to impress the visitors....... Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

Just booked mine for August 25th in the afternoon.
If you email them they will make your preferred date available to book online, so all the days shaded orange and saying "currently unavailable" are actually available if you contact them directly. 2002 110 td5 |

Went on the defender tour this morning with my brother. We made it just, despite being 15 minutes late (rather than half an hour early) thanks to an accident on the m42.
It was well worth it, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't been already. I saw a heritage 90 hard top, and an adventure 110 SW on the line as well as various other lovely shiny new defenders. The variety of styles, spec, sizes etc was truly fascinating to see. I also saw the body panels on a jig for a 110sw that I could swear we're painted blue and black? Defender autobiography? Oh and saw a Australian bound 90 heritage SW having some serious paint rectification work done on it (bonnet off and wings off). Oops! |

Yikes, hope that wasn't my Australian bound Heritage 90!!
Then again, thanks to the rectification work it will probably be the highest quality Defender to leave the factory that day! As an aside, I'm surprised they're already manufacturing a Heritage vehicle given we're only in March. Perhaps it's for dealer or mfr display purposes? I wouldn't expect any of the production vehicles to be on the line yet. Nick 2015 Defender 90 Heritage edition on order |
