Hi
I've just purchased some Croytec windscreen brackets (thanks, K9F). They'll be somewhere in the grasp of a courier heading North up the M6 now I would think However...two queries on the fitting thereof... 1. I was thinking I may as well add new (stainless hopefully) bolts. On older Land Rovers they were a stepped design as per the pic below. Anyone know the spec, or where I can get stainless ones? 2. Whilst I'm swapping them, should I squirt loads of Dinitrol Cavity Wax into the holes prior to refit (as you do with the door hinges on the pillars)? (query because of the unknown make-up of the material of the windscreen surround) Pic of "old style" windscreen bracket bolt: Cheers Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Martin,
Two things here. The holes are blind, do not fill the holes with sealant as the sealant will have nowhere to go and you may damage the block or strip the thread on tightening. A slight smear on the threads is fine. Also use the butyl I have wrapped them in to cut yourself some gaskets. Again a small smear of sealant on the faces of the gaskets is fine. The hinge blocks themselves are anodised alloy and as such I personally would be reluctant to use stainless ones but it is personal choice and I used the originals that were fitted to my vehicle with these blocks for several years without issue. I have now replaced the original bolts with stainless as my replacement blocks are stainless themselves. I could have thrown the original bolts in as well as they are just now sat on my workbench. Hope this helps. Will take a picture of the bolts and post it up but the ones depicted do not look right. Use your originals. Here are my originals. Aha - thanks, K9F. I'll re-use the existing bolts I think.
WRT the bimetallic corrosion, I usually use ACF50 corrosion block grease, and it's all been ok so far. Cheers buddy Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

No sweat. Thought I'd keep the postage down by keeping the bolts......
Just presumed you'd use your originals anyway. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
