Missing Roll Bars
Ok so I have been driving around enjoying my defender when naturally thoughts come to upgrading suspension etc... SO I have been reading about upgrading anti roll bars etc thinking this is a nice simple job for a man that's handy on the spanners.

So I look underneath and I cannot for the life of me see any anti roll bars! front or rear.

Now my 2008MY Puma started life as an MOD RAF county spec 90 not sure if that means they were not fitted with any but I cant find them!

Assuming they are not actually there does anyone have any pics or diagrams of what they should look like and what connections are needs as I think for motorway and road use they would be a useful addition.

I have uploaded some pics in case that helps

For some reason you don't have them your correct, they should look like this:

Although not orange as these are aftermarket uprated ones but Orange makes them clearer for you to see in this instance 😊👍

They bolt to those large flat plates you can see in your picture on the chassis rails 2009 Defender County Hard Top (gone 😞)

You do on the rear too you can see them they are at a different angle to the front ones up by the fuel tank (can just see them at the top of your last but one photo) and come down to the two empty tabs on the back of the axle, sorry that's just an image off google not my defender unfortunately but I believe the website was called xtreme 4x4 that sold that kit if you want to look and see what it comes with Thumbs Up 2009 Defender County Hard Top (gone 😞)

County spec didn't specifically include ARBs - my County-spec 2007 double cab doesn't have them.

I am not sure if it is/was the model type or the spec level which determined whether or not they were fitted. I think that the vehicles which are essentially more "commercial" don't have them (pickups, hardtops, double cabs) whilst those which are more passenger-vehicle-like do have them (station wagons).

I am sure that someone with the answer will be along. Retrofitting ARBs is easy under normal circumstances.

Sorry are you saying you can see the rears? Just looked at the extreme website

mine has the empty brackets on the axle but its not clear where they attach below/beside the fuel tank.

Either way looks like I need to get some!

Thanks Blackwolf, I suspect being a RAF county it was paired right back to what was essential it looks like it has the bracket but none of the hoops or drop links

So at least it looks like they haven't been removed.

Will need to track down the parts it would be good to fit an upgraded bar rather than standard

I don't think you got arb's unless it's an XS that came standard with alloys or specced alloy wheels, strange that the alloy wheel option also came with ARB's

Ah..that makes sense now. Browsing the brochure recently I had noticed that the Style Pack includes ARB as well as alloys. This was the only place i noticed any mention of ARB and wondered why it came with a "style" package rather than "performance" or "safety" etc.
Interestingly the Style pack is not an option on the SW - so this means the current SW base model already has ARB (even with steel wheels) or the ARB is included when upgrading to alloys but the brochure doesn't mention it?

Just fitting standard roll bars will be a BIG improvement !!! I bought mine from a fellow forum member for a few , Once fitted didn't see the need for anything more. Standard rears are easily available, and they are advertised on here regulary. Put up a Wanted thread, I'm sure someone will oblige you

That may be correct re the "commercial" variants, my old '07 XS double cab didn't have them either.

The picture of the rear orange arb shows it fitted wrongly.
The knuckles on the rear axle are the wrong way up, they are hanging below the axle and need rotating......just in case you are intrested......never mind......I will get my coat Embarassed 2003 Td5 90

... but if you are doing a lot of off-roading, having the ARB's off does give you better axle articulation. YOLO... You Only Live Once...

Something must have changed later then as my MY13 XS double cab (with HD steel wheels) does have then front & rear, and I didn't especially spec them.

Included on Build Configuration Sheet as:

Anti Roll Bars : Front & Rear Anti-Roll Bar [027BD]
