Thanks for asking Andrew.

Munch, I think there is a post somewhere, off to do a search Thumbs Up

Found it !

Ignition on......pressed both brake and accelerator pedal down for 15 seconds.... Oil light started to flash. Turned the ignition off and left it for around 2 mins. Went back to the car and no more oil service indicator.

Has anyone had one of these connected to a Defender TD5? I know they are not so expensive as other units but Just would like to hear first hand experience, of how well they work.
I am thinking of getting one to check up on the sensors in my TD5

I would like to know about TD5 also. When you read up on the various ads for this they seem to conflict so a definitive answer from someone who has actually plugged it into a TD5 will be of use to a lot of us reading this. The dealers selling the kit just seem to want to refer you to Terrafirma and their wording seems different to I-carsoft who make it

Thanks Skeggy, as Drakes says above the information you find leaves you unsure, I have looked a various web pages and the text seems to leave you feeling "did I read that right" ??
Great to hear from someone who can actually connect it up and tell us what happens.

I have one of these tools use it to switch off my abs tc lights on my defender td5 03 plate works well also does engine as well but you can't code in injectors or do brake bleed. Tells me I have shuttle valve failure so just waiting for a nice day to fix as only comes on after parking on a slope and switching off if I park level all good lol

Thanks Steptoe
I saw this advertised and I wondered if it would be good to check things like the MAF, sensor and the combined pressure temp in the manifold, this is not so easy on my 01Defender TD5 ( considering other cars can use a £25 unit from Amazon)
I recently had an issue which made me wonder if the MAP sensor was working, I have made myself a boost checker with about £12 worth of bits off e-bay and was setting up the turbo see text below in red which I have posted on another site.
Now you have re assured me I am thinking of investing in one of these units.

Yesterday I decided to look at the turbo boost, I attached a T piece into the waste gate actuator pipe, connected a 0 - 30 Psi glycerine filled gauge on a long tube and put it in the cab.
I took it out and pushed it hard up hill and found the boost pressure hit maximum of about 13 - 14 Psi, before I detected the waste gate open and the pressure fell back slightly.
I adjusted the waste gate linkage, until it hit a maximum of 16 - 18 Psi boost when pushed hard and it felt much better.
on the last run up the hill I heard a muffled boom and a whistle and the engine lost power and started giving out clouds of black smoke,
limped half a mile up to a lay by and found that the silicon boost air pipe going into the intercooler had blown off, re fixed the jubilee clip and tightened it up and all was OK again.

When I arrived home I started to think about this and I wonder if anyone might know why :
Without the turbo the engine was dead flat and giving out huge clouds of black smoke, but should the manifold pressure sensor have detected the fall in inlet manifold pressure and adjusted the fuel to a much lower level to take account for this, i.e. the engine would be running like a normal aspirated diesel?
I can understand the performance falling way down this is to be expected with no boost but why would it kick out all of that black smoke?
I am wondering if the manifold pressure sensor is goosed.

So I ordered the icarsoft unit and yesterday hooked it up to my 2001 TD5 (15P) defender
Working through the different menus I arrived at Defender TD5 and went to manual select data stream

It can read the information re the ECM manufacture S/N, date and program date but
If I select most items in data stream all I get in the reading is <<<

Only two items give a reading manifold pressure and rpm, but they give inaccurate readings which don't change at all when the engine revs.
Is it me that is missing something? instruction manual is not the greatest, but I spent some time selecting one thing after another still no joy.
Anyone else tried this?

I gave up, luckily the guy refunded my money and I just lost the postage, I wrote to the icarsoft people asking them to help they told me they would look into it, but no real explanation why the TD 5 option does not work as it should. So just put it down to experience

Well it connected to the Ecm and it could see the details like serial number and program date which are stored in there, but it could not read any streaming data i.e. Engine rpm, or maf sensor, so it was no use to me.

Anyone any experience of this new one? It seems to answer some of the issues raised in earlier posts.
