iPod in the Puma
As many of you probably know, down here in the colonies we are blessed with 2 Defenders models a 130 and 110 with limited options. Sadly the 110 seems to sit with bits from the County and XS models.

That said the Audio unit in the 110 seems to be the same unit fitted everywhere so this then begs the questions:

Why did they blank out the AUX input? (3.5mm jack)
Can it be opened up?
Is the "Audio Connectivity Module" (LR Part: LR007647) usable on all audio units and if so does it:
a) connect the iPod to the audio unit or
b) connect the ipod to an inline antenna feed to the radio 110 2.4TDCi

Well you are lucky, here in Chile all models coming without LR audio system Shocked I have a Kenwood one provided by the dealer that have AUX input but low quality (I will change soon)

Strange that you have the AUX Imput blank

Original one, as far as I know and as the owner manual said, have an AUX input to connect the Ipod (not an USB or direct Ipod connection like more advanced system).

On the other side Ipod inline antenna works with all sound system trhough the FM system

On the new ones there are 3 options:
1) No unit
2) Basic Unit
3) Unit with aux input (so input from I Pod.

All it is is a Jack connector though Mike

Wow someone gets less options than Australia Shocked I hope Land Rover Australia don't find out or they might just stop importing Defenders altogether.

mse, I suspect from what you've said that the kit I found info on isn't made anymore and is an inline to aerial radio unit. In that case I'm better off staying with the Monster Cable FM transmitter I currently use. 110 2.4TDCi

Well we was a spanish colony, may be for this reason we have less options than Australia. According to the dealer when I asked why they dont imports Defenders with audio system he said me that were quite common that the audios were stolen in the customs, for this reason they prefered the option 1).

dm_td5: Are the original audio system good?

Actually they are quite OK, easy to use and good radio pickup. I'm not a great believer in spending lots of money for fantastic hi-fi in a vehicle - especially a Defender - so it more than meets my needs. 110 2.4TDCi

Yes i think the speaker options go in line with the radio options so:
1) None
2) 4 Speakers
3) 6 Speakers

If my energy levels peaked ill turn round an get the sales stuff out.

As for the I-Pod bit, im sure (like all the cars) its just a jack aux input, just like the one on my Sony in the disco and in our other new cars. For info its on the bottom right hand side next to what would look like a blanking very small plate (it isnt though)

Our unit is ok, a little bass less - but there are other reasons for that. Does the job well and thats what the defender is about (i should say its the xs with 6 speakers, hi line stereo or whatever they call it) Mike

Mike, we get the 6 speakers and the cd/radio but the Aux input is blanket off. I think this is the equivalent radio to the UK County's.

At then end of the day I think I will probably turn around a replace the hole unit in about 6 months with a fully iPod compatible one.

From what I've since learnt about "Audio Connectivity Module" (LR Part: LR007647) its not available in Australia and also is just an inline aerial feed from the iPod. 110 2.4TDCi

Not provided by LR. you must buy one car mount for ipod (for example from (http://www.clubmac.com/clubmac/search/search~search~iPod%20Car%20Mount.asp) and put it were you like.

Cheers! Eduardo

Well I for one am glad we didn't get the iPod aux input head unit here in Aus since it meant I didn't feel so bad when I ditched it altogether. I put in a Pioneer unit with direct iPod control and routed the cable into the cubby. Sweeeeeet!

Here is the unit - Pioneer DEH-P800BT (with bluetooth phone connection)

I boosted it with a compact powered sub-woofer mounted to the back of the cubby. This has made all the difference as the whole setup now has some sort of bass response.
