Nightbreakers seem to come in 2 types of packaging, a cardboard backed blister pack and a fancy hard plastic box. The plastic box is how mine came and this would be ideal for keeping a spare pair intact in the truck.

Good to know kipperthedog, now at least I know specifically what to ask for. I found an acquaintance selling Nightbreakers in the plastic box, I'll see if he has stock and get some pricing updates.
There's only one kind of Nightbreaker right? I heard that there was another version of Osram Nightbreakers floating around out there? |

"Unlimited" is the latest version I think. "Extreme" was the version before, and I think there was at least 1 before that.

Thanks kipperthedog! That'll definitely narrow things down on which version to get.

At least two types of nightbreakers,90% and unlimited 110%,I went for 90% ltd edition (gold plated, lol) As I assume the lower "performance" will last longer.Candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long etc.
Also a mate of mine fitted Nightbreakers to his Peugeot and it failed the MOT due to incorrect beam pattern, the tester demonstrated by fitting oem and the different acceptable pattern. Personally I don't have a problem with OEM bulbs and headlamps, but it's a nice upgrade. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |

The manual for my 08 Defender 90 lists the headlight bulbs as H7s - did they change the spec at some point? |

I would be surprised if they were h7s as these are single filament. Look at te back of your bulbs....3 contacts means definately h4.

The manual is wrong, it's a known issue. They are definitely H4s.

I bought mine from Advanced Factors on here, some stainless bezels from I can't remember, after fitting them myself (five minute job) had the headlamps aligned by an MoT garage; so I know everything's perfectly adjusted.
My verdict: yes, an improvement, but nothing to wet my knickers about. Buy a set, have them in reserve so that when one of your originals burns out you can replace them both with an upgrade. But don't worry too much and, of course, having them as spares will mean that your factory-fitted ones will last the life of your vehicle. Peter |
