Hi everyone,
I would like to ask if someone already has this modification: http://www.chipexpress.com/products/3487/ Everything sounds extremely good (almost to much): - Fuel economy (up to 20%!) - Torque increase (up to 470Nm) - Power increase (up to 163hp) And it is a plug and play chip that I can remove at any time without consequences. I like the plug and play idea because in case of need I can remove it easily...my truck is still under warranty and remap I think invalidate the warranty. What do you think about it? Cheers France |

The general theme is that you are better off using one of the forum sponsor tuners. You get exactly what they state and there is loads of good feedback. Alternatively do a search using "Chip Express' as your keyword and read the 11 threads available. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

£395 Pay a little more and go for a proper tune. Do Chip Express have any rolling road graphs or just claims? The benefits of plug and play are limited and the limitations well publicised on the forum. Reversion back to standard on a proper tume doesn't even involve opening the bonnet. Tuning has advanced a long way too, I used to have an Autologic Tune that had been produced for a 'stock standard' vehicle, eventually that too started giving me issues with overboost due to further vehicle enhancements. The tunes nowadays can take into consideration different parameters and adjust accordingly. Fron Chip Express....."To fine-tune your system simply remove the rear end of the module where you can make small incremental adjustments above or below the supplied setting using the power selector within, easy to do and fully explained in instructions supplied." Undoubtedly this will be a variable potentiometer or in simple terms the resistor Martin refers to in his post below. Tucked away in one of the threads and a couple of years old but for the price difference get something well proven with loads of positive feedback, 'pm' or phone Gary at Alive or Pete at Bell Auto Services either way you would not be disappointed. I had one on the disco 3. I payed 100£ on the disco3 forum.
I thought it was good for the 100£. But to pay 395£ for it is too much. That is nearly the price of a remap and a remap is better... I think. Fabio |

Thank for your opinions and experience!
I spent sometime looking for some info about this magic box: In general people that tried it are happy about this box and they report better drivability and better feeling. I didn't find any bad review or problems given by the box wiring. I founded on a MiniCooper forum a comparison between with/without the box on Dyno run and is possible to see an actually improvement of the performance (more power and more torque). Not the same values as the optimistic data given by chipexpress but at least close... At the end it looks like is a valid modification...of course 395£ for a piece of electronic is a lot. I don't know if this price is justified by a high quality product. Maybe soon or later...or for 200£ less... France |

Jeez, 43HP & 110NM,....... IS A LOT!!??
But how does it get to this? I've heard, both here, & in Aus, that these "Piggy Back" type systems simply send signals to the ECU making the engine do stuff that it should not be doing in the particular circumstances under which it is operationg at the time. All sorts of safety (engine) parameters can be breached. I would NEVER fit one. Pickles. |

I've actually got one I purchased new, which has now been taken off my 2.2 because it's having the full remap. I did think it made a difference and was generally pretty happy with it but decided to go with the remapping as part of a whole retune. Make me an offer if you're interested? Defender Puma 2.2 XS 90
