Gearbox oil conundrum.
I decided to change all my fluids & filter today.
No problems there, all fairly straight forward, except when I dropped the gearbox oil,I measured what came out & there was 3 litres, Surprised
Everything I have read on here and elsewhere says to put a measured quantity of 2.4 litres in,which I have done. But why might there have been 3 litres in there?
My Truck is a 2007 2.4 puma.

A lot of them, especially around 2007, seem to have left the factory overfilled. Also people tend to treat the filler hole as a level hole (which it isn't) and overfill. Finally quite a few folk confuse the two similar-looking screws in the side, only one of which is the filler!

It is very common to find them overfilled!

Surely it is 2.2 not 2.4 litres?
I'd like to know coz I put 2.2 in mine.

The manual does say 2.2l from refil,& 2.4 from empty, but all the advice given on my searches on here & other places says 2.4l from refill.
I put 2.4l in mine.
Confused

Thank you. One (or two) of the magazines said 2.2 and it makes sense that some oil no matter how thin will be retained when drained. I'm servicing it next month so maybe I will go halfway and add another 0.1.
As a matter of interest, the service interval is enormous on the box oil but as mine had 150,000 on it when I got it, I thought I would do it despite it costing me £60. The stuff that came out looked like the bottom of a river bed and the difference in gear changes has made it all worthwhile. It might be even better with another 0.1L in it Very Happy

2.2 Litres is the correct amount for a service fill - source L/R Topix
