It might be worth checking that the high/low range switch isn't stuck in the low position before you replace anything more expensive. I think that the switch is open in high and closed in low, in which case you could try unplugging the connector above the front output housing on the transfer box (there are two connectors, one is the high/low switch and the other the difflock switch. Unfortunately they are really inaccessible unless you take the panel between the front seats out and work from above).
Alternatively a diagnostic tool such as Faultmate can probably read the input from the switch and you should see if it is working (although ISTR that faultmate has the readings transposed, ie is says high when you're in low and vv. The important check is that the reading changes when you move the transfer selector). |

I'd forgotten about this thread!
The only update I have is, the MAF has been swapped and the transfer case is now a Disco one with no High/Low switch and the pedal is still the same. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Got a spare potentiometer here if you need. What have you done with high low wires. Left unconnected or joined them?
May be worth while trying the two options. Pedal should work differently in high compared to low. Andy |

The high/low has been left as is not connected AFAIK
The spare potentiometer could be a good move, is this the same across all years? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Yeah, mine on the Ibex was not working, even though it was put on the bulkhead, to keep it out of harms way
wd or anything really will do. A quick strip and squirt had it sorted. here's a pic from my Ibex, so you know what you're looking for. Click image to enlarge |
