All 'spare' connectors I've ever come across either on cars or motorcycles never have blanks fitted. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Why not add a sounder and do a very worthwhile upgrade to you security?

Thanks for the tip guys! I'll go and check it out.

So the BBUS was a factory option? Not standard?

Amazing considering how many get stolen.

I doubt LR would of bothered putting that option on yours when they kitted it out. They probably kept it stored and heavily secured/CCTV'd when it was on display etc so never the need.

If you do get a BBUS, I'd locate it and move the wiring as you've discovered just how easy they are to get to!

One thing that crossed my mind ... Don't suppose it was attached to your previous wing? I don't know which bit of bodywork it bolts to!

IIRC the AMR4971 which you see most of on that auction site does not work correctly with the 10AS alarm (the signalling was different), it was AMR4974 that was fitted to the Defender but so long ago that any with that part number for sale are not worth buying for the reason stated by Romadog.

The current part number is LR044570, about £100

Hasn't the BBU sounder been fitted as standard to all models of the defender since 2012 though? At least that's what I was lead to believe by the various brochures in PDF form I've got?

Since the OP said his was a 2013MY I thought it would have had one from new?

I certainly hope mine (2014MY 90sw) has one, and if not it's getting one fitted, (and not in the standard location either).

Alby - i thought exactly the same - mine came as standard and listed as:

Battery Back-Up : Battery back up sounder system [076ED]

Silly question perhaps? But I can't seem to find an alarm bbus unit on my Puma 2.2.
It is a 2013 County Station Wagon ( reg march 2013 , built Dec 2012 ).I
I thought it would be sitting behind the NS headlight but nothing there? Just a horn.

Does anybody know if it was an option or standard fitment ? or perhaps they just ran out a the factory?
I presume if it hasn't got one then the alarm just sounds the horn?

I seem to have got quite a basic spec as it also has no ABS nor traction control ?

I don't think that all late models were fitted with BBUS even though LR suggested that they were (a bit like the four gear front diff issue really), and there may well have been supply difficulties towards the end.

Behind your n/s headlight there should be a horn (to match the one on the o/s) and then either an alarm sounder (not-battery-backed) or a BBUS. If there is only a single vehicle horn on that side it is possible that a previous owner has relocated the BBUS to a less-insecure location, since only a cretin would put it somewhere where it can be accessed from outside without setting it off (thanks, Landrover)!

The easiest was to see if you have a BBUS is simply to disconnect the battery. If you have a working BBUS there will be a lot of noise from somewhere, if you don't have one there will be silence.

This won't work...different part number and different earth routing logic in the P38 body control module compared to the Defender 10AS as far as I can tell. I bought one thinking they were the same, the connectors are the same and the plug fits nicely, but it will sound as soon a you plug it in.
