Left Stuttgart this afternoon and drove to the Alps. Montafon, Gaschurn. About four hours, driving down along Lake Constance and into Austria. On the Autobahn, cruising at 130 Kmh occasionally hitting the speedlimiter at 145. I noted that with air temperature of around 3° I was seeing around 550° on the scangauge. The water temperature wandered between 88° and 91°. Nothing unusual.
Tanked up just before the hotel. I was surprised by the fuel consumption being a tad lower at 12 L/100 Km than when I am driving locally. I often use 13 L/100 Km, and have got used to the idea that the TD4 is near impossible to drive more economically. However, it doesnīt use any more fuel if driven fast. Pulling a 3.5 Ton trailer at around 100 Kmh during the summer, did produce 16 L/100 Km consumption figures, but thatīs goes with the territory. I get the feeling that my 40000 Km Landy enjoys an occasional long distance blast .....to clear out the bores and such . 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

The Nak carriers are great, mine saved the back if my 110 from a whole lot more damage than was visible after a truck reversed into it, bodyshop said it could have been Ģ20k instead if Ģ5k 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE |

Sorted the roof mounted spots today, as it was so warm and sunny...
Whoever fitted them in the first place has made a right bodge of them... I will have to set to and re-wire them from scratch come Spring proper as each spot has been joined and black electrically taped underneath each fitting and open to the elements... Not even sure they are that effective or worth keeping tbh, although I like their discrete profile, but now they are working properly I can at least check that out and make an informed decision... Went to Donnington 4x4 show and bought the following:
Wipac clear LED light set Black chequer plate for sills and rear Replacement tie down rings (at least, that's what I call them) Adrenalin pedal lock Came home and fitted it all (only got one tie down ring fitted before the light ran out). Think I have made a mistake on the clear LEDs for the rear, should have gone for coloured, it looks a bit too pimp now. Might have to see if Flatdog will swap them for me. Having now fitted the black chequer plate (cairns blue defender), it's now crying out for a set of black sawtooths! |

Went to Donington 4x4 show today, picked up these nifty CREE reverse lamp bulbs off a bloke piggy backing of Dave Bowyer's stand.
Click image to enlarge Just screw straight in. OLD bulb: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge NEW bulb: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Bit difficult to tell of an iPhone picture, but about twice as bright, broader spread of light. Once I've got my 2nd reverse lamp installed, I should have ample rearward illumination  Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Pete 2010 Discovery 4 GS TDV6 1972 Series III 88" 2.25P |
