New intercooler + Adjustable Electronic Tuning Unit
I am about to order a Defender Performance Intercooler because the standard Intercooler is in bad condition, several fins broke off - while reading on the website of Allisport i noticed this:

Adjustable Electronic Tuning unit for Land Rover Defender TD5

It seems very easy, just plug in and in combination with the intercooler should give lots of HP / Torque but my question is; has anyone installed such a unit from Allisport and if yes - does it work ??? I have used the search engine, found and read everything about tuning and understand that a remap is the best to do but as i live in NL it would be much easier just to plug in this unit and ready........ don't have the time to come to UK and visit Allisport / Alive or Bell. There are lots of tuning boxes on the market promising the best in results (which i doubt) but from a respected tuning company i may expect a good result. I anyone knows or has installed this unit already, please let me know, thanks. Duct tape is The Force; is has a light side, a dark side and it holds the universe together.

I have not had one, but I believe that Gary at Alive Tunning has a similar product for the Td5, he also has very good intercoolers. Another option is the ARTIC system so mapping can be carried out via emails between the two parties.

Hello Dutch G4,

A while ago I found a used PSI power box on marktplaats. for about 100 euro. Very Happy

http://www.psi-motorsport.com/turbodiesel/...&lg=en

It has 3 different power settings for which you have to open the box so not while driving. You can switch it on and off while driving.
Normally I have it switched off and I switch it on when needed. As you can see at the youtube clip below it smokes a bit before the turbo comes in. at 1:13 and 3:30.

The PSI system works by increasing the injecting time so by faking sensor signals. It might not be as good as a proper tune but for me it works.
I really like the point that I can switch it on and off.
The only small disadvantage is that it kicks in at about 1300 rpm. So it is a bit difficult to drive with 1300-1350 rpm. That's why I switch it off with on road driving. Roel

A friend of mine has this unit from Allisport, it definitely works but it's an extremely crude method of 'tuning' IIRC it works by tricking the ECU into delivering more fuel. The result of this is a very lumpy power delivery, as if the power is either on or off. I think he (and yourself) would benefit from a proper remap making the vehicle much more drivable.

Have you considered the ATRIC/BAS Interface from Alive/BAS? They can post the unit to you and supply the remap files over email. I'm pretty sure this is available for TD5. Tom

Then there is a problem with that system as with my PSI system you will not feel the difference if you first drive my 90. Unless I show you the button where I can switch it on and off. It's just like that the throttle is more sensitive. You have to push it not as far in as normal to keep a certain speed. And by that on the end you have some throttle left were you get the additional power. Roel
