Long story short...
My bog standard fitted Alpine 133BT unit... ... has been driving me absolutely bonkers on FM, with awful white noise type interference, sometimes blocking out reception almost completely on my London commutes! And yet around here (home area) I hardly notice the noise at all... So, y'all know I have been whimpering about having to put up with a Heritage 90 HT, which has no AirCon... This morning I decided, at 0445hrs on my way down to Londinium, to try living without AirCon from now on! ... Et voila - AirCon switched off = White Noise interference gone! Go figure... I mean, really, go figure, or at least can anyone give me a clue where to start/look to resolve said interference, pretty please... Rog... The GREEN One... It might be worth checking the aerial is fully fiitted into the rear of the radio. A poor earth will amplify any dodgy signal. I guess you could check the earth on the aerial itself too.

I have the same radio (but in a TD5) and I bought a couple of levers that allow you to take the radio out of its DIN cradle in the dash. The levers were a couple of £.
Something like these.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-Car-Radio-V...3aa2799fd0 cheers simon |

Hi Roger,
We use 12 volt PA systems linked with automotive audio and visual on our vessels. A product we have used are Ground Loop Isolators that will rid you of interference if you cannot find the source itself. You need to check all your connections for security and as far as possible all your cables (especially any screened ones) for chafing or cuts, together with the grounding of your head unit. I would specifically check any air conditioning earths as well, if they are compromised it may be seeking an alternative route that may affect your stereo perhaps? One of these being a cheap investment may help. These are exactly the ones we use..... Hope this helps.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ground-Loop-Isol...118wt_1197 If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Evening Roger,
As you can identify that the issue happens when the air conditioning is on you can perhaps negate the requirement of a ground loop isolator by ensuring your head unit and air conditioning is grounded/earthed at exactly the same point. This will ensure no potential difference between the two. Even if you have the time and inclination to slave in a temporary cable to test this suggestion out it will give you a pointer perhaps? In my work scenario the issue causing the interference can be two decks below and the GLI is simply a 'workaround.' If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
