Hi all,
I like this idea http://www.nickslandrover.co.uk/getting-noticed/ I bought a light from SVC and am just wondering which connector makes the break lights come on, on the rear drivers side, so that I can connect the bullet connector and has anybody got any pics of the connector? There will probably be a brake light +12v feed already in the door, all you need to do is connect to that and a suitable earth point. If you take the door card off, open up the electrical tape where the wires come out of the rubber shield between the body & door, there should be a single spade type socket between the rubber & the wiper motor. Mine is also a 2001 MY and it had it ready & waiting, which I didn't know and had fitted my own similar to the link posted, until I got the LandyGlass (sorry, VGS) back windscreen & Dave showed me where the wiring was. You can either connect up a spade connector on your new brake light & a ring terminal for suitable earth, or cut the spade off & create your own. Mark S

I.AM_a driver is right find the source for the current breaklight and tap into this. I installed one on my 300tdi (now sold) and think they are an excellent safety feature, much better than the standard breaklights alone. The following may or may not help to you, this is on a MY2011 2.4 puma with both a heated rear window and a high level breaklight (so standard set up). My high level breaklight stopped working, so needed a fix, and essentially I did the same as you will need to do. The high level breaklight is powered by a wired supply to the rear door and then (in my case) through two elements (similar to the heated rear window) up to the position of the high level breaklight. Somewhere the element had broken (or was breaking down) as a multi meter gave power to the rear door Black Wire left hand side and Green/Purple Wire right hand side. I crimped (scotch locked) a replacement feed, my Black/Grey wire and fed it through the feed to the heated rear window (there was just enough room) and then could get the wire within the rubber window seal unseen round to the top of the window providing a new feed to the highlevel light. Soldered contacts onto the light and it was back working. The wiring route may be of interest to you to make it an 'invisible' installation, first thing is locate your source feed providing 12Vs when the break pedal is applied if its in the rear door already great, if its like on the 300tdi you need to take the feed from the rear light cluster you will also need to get across into the door as well, there is enough room through the rubber tube 'bridging' across near the middle door hinge. Anyway here's mine... thanks guys I will take a look, I've only just read this post. I took photos of my rear right light assembly before.

That will do, behind the door card may give you another option nearer to the installation point of your light but I don't know. I'm guessing that there may be a supply in there as I AM_a driver said, that may or may not get used depending on the spec of the build at LR, they may fit just one loom only as it's cheaper than stocking various types.  , but if I was to connect to the brake light would it be the middle one or right?

I would say from what I can see, your TD5 may not have a power feed, linked to your break lights, and fed into the rear door. It may be there unused, check the colour of the wires at the break lights and into the rear door, but you can for sure tap into the existing lights (on one side) in the rear, and feed through the loom 'tubing' at the door hinge. Get hold of a simple multi meter and source the two wires that give you a 12V reading when the break lights are operated. tap (scotch lock) on to these. thanks, I've been googling and I am pretty sure its the Green / purple wire by the light cluster, so I will take it through the rubber tube and up into the door. But I will follow your advice

I.AM_a driver and X4SKP I passed it into the rear window rubber like you said and crimped the green/purple wire with a scotchloc.
Here is the finished pic thanks for the help guys. Tucking it into the rubber seal round the window makes for a very neat install and the 3M sticky feet stuck to the glass seem to hold well.

The 3M sticky stuff is probably VHB Tape... absolutely brilliant stuff so if used on a clean dry surface it should stick well and last. It's used on rear view mirrors that are stuck to the front windscreen. Anyway good job, I know how more confident I felt with the additional breaklight installed on my previous 300tdi... in my mind it reduced the risk of turning my 90 into an 88 or even worse an 80... Hi
Here is the light I bought http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/clear-led-high-level-brake-light/ It comes with 2x feet, 2x sticky pads, 2 x Scotchloc, and screws as well as a positive and neutral feed which is long enough to tap into the rear drivers side brake light wire (green/purple). I stuck the feet to the rear window and tucked it into the window seal which gives an invisible look. The neutral then has a ring terminal on it which is then attached to the windscreen wiper motor bolt, by simply unscrewing it and then screwing it back in place. The live feed then goes through the rubber wiring loom in the door to the live feed. The hardest part of this was actually getting the wire through the loom, I ended up using a piece of 5mm dowel and taping the wire too it and pushing it through hoping I didn't damage any other wires. Seems to have worked. I will take photos on the weekend of the finished job on the inside. The reflection in the window is minimal, but the light is bright and a cheaper alternative to the official brake light and more low profile.
