Increase fuel consumption
How do folk how are we all??

I have a 07 2.4 90 defender with fuel consumption issues

When first had it it retuned 30mpg no problems at all towing town work what ever pretty constant

Very quickly last 3/4 tank fills it's reduced to 20mpg

Had few error codes had a fit where by revving it hard would put it into limp mode and half power

Garage cleared these for me said it the codes related to the turbo and injectors but weren't sure which injector

Power now good where it lacked before they cleared the error codes but now it's only doing 23mpg

Been back to my specialist garage they have looked it over and can't find any reason

Iv cleaned out the maf sensor this was pretty chocked

Cleaned map sensor

Had new air flow mass sensor on the air box

EGR valve seams to work just fine

Can't find any boost leaks though will check more thoroughly nothing is obvious

No dragging brakes

Injectors are tight

No obvious fuel leaks and drips, stand it on clean concrete over night only thing on the floor is my coffee as I struggle through the door!!

Not got anything over silly fitted to it only mantech snorkel and steering guard other wise standard

It's done 102,000 miles up to date with servicing but is due oil n filter change in about 2000miles

Any ideas?

Think I will change the oil n filters early and just see doesn't use drop of oil between services.

VCV

Had the same issues and similar on our other 2 2008 110's
Once past the 100000 mark it seems the valve starts to play up

I was barely able to keep it below 15l/100km in the end

Will post more in short time in new topic

New valve, pump relearn and pilot correction and everything back to normal

2cents Thumbs Up

just a thought I know you said you had checked the hoses to the turbo but have noticed black smoke from your exhaust even a small hole will upset the fuel mixture

Hi Fatman,

Now with +2000 km on the counter including a fully loaded 4day weekend trip i can confirm that the vcv solved:

on mine
- rough idle on startup at around 0° temps
- brought back consumption to 9l/100km on mixed roads max speed 100km/h (90% non highway) with roof rack, rtt, and gear loaded (mind i have a BAS remap so +1.5 for non mapped according my stats)

The white 110 had almost no load and a good driver (an economic one with over a million miles on his counter) and returned similar mpg, whereas the engine would cut out at cold start it now purred as a puma should with it's new vcv

The 130 is a 2.2 and only added a couple of mm's of oil content during the trip... 11000 km on the counter and approaching 2nd oil change due to diesel DPF oil contamination Big Cry Banging Head Thud Thud Thud
