And who said it would be for the road?
I know theres a lot of defenders on here being used as chelsea tractors that will never be used in anger, but not all of us fall into that category |

Hello,
the photo show's a unpainted example. The bracket on the photo isn't fixed at the car - only hanged in the roof gutter. To fix the can you should use 2 belts. There are many openings to fix the belts. There aren't metal fixings because the brackets must be flat if you drive without loading. The brackets can be used for separate fixing systems/ mount plates. Regards - Markus |

Excuse my ignorance, I have read this term before, what is the reference to a “Chelsea Tractor” WMcA Brisbane Australia

Chelsea tractor = large normally expensive 4x4 used exclusively in an urban situation as a status symbol. Typically on school run or shopping trip. Will not be used as a work horse towing will probably never be driven off Tarmac. Chances are driver does not know width of vehicle, will not know what a low box is or traction control etc.

Thanks mate, understood now, we may refer to it as “as a Torack Taxi” an up market suburb of Melbourne where $100,000k+ vehicles are used to drop kids of at school. This reply is not intended to upset anybody in AU. WMcA Brisbane Australia

How do you stop the whole mounting bouncing/swinging about the roof gutter fixing, especially if off road or going over speed bumps? I'm thinking of this effect: Click image to enlarge |

Hi,
the carrier is tested many many kilometers on/ offroad (with 40 kg per bracket). You fix the bracket in the roof gutter and (!) at the body. The original pop rivets must be drilled off. At the same position you can fix the carrier with 2 (1 jerry can) or 4 screws (2 jerry cans). Fot the HD-freaks we have a bracket for the safety devices roll cage (you can fix a spare defender ) Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge You can trust on this carrier! |

I think this is a very elegant solution along the same lines - it's from Touratech and mounts a 2 litre plastic bottle but could be scaleable:
