Oil in the Wiring Loom
Hey team!

So - i've got rather a lot of oil in my 2004 TD5 110's ECU compartment, as yet no mis firing but I am thinking it would be better to fix this now rather than wait for a problem!

Have done some reading and I reckon even for someone with my limited ability it's easy enough to do based on my not replacing the main wiring loom but just the injector harness. My questions if I may are as follows (sorry some of these are really basic/foolish):

1) What is the difference between the Paddocks Wiring Loom http://www.paddockspares.com/amr6103-injec...l?___SID=U and the Devon 4x4 One http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?page=sho...;Itemid=14? The Devon one is £48 versus Paddocks £28, any thoughts on which to get?

2) I gather you need to seal the new Injector loom otherwise the same will simple happen again, people talk about an oil resistant sealant - what is good for this? Sorry it's a thick question but want to use the right one! Do you literally just coat the connector end with this?

3) My third foolish query is this - what solvent cleaner should i use on the main loom to help clear the oil out? Don't want to use the wrong one

4) If i put a new gasket on the rocker cover, do i need any past on it or anything like that?

5) What torque should the bolts on the rocker cover be done to?

Q3....Any electrical cleaner as any residue will evaporate......I would probably go with the Electrolube one! Thumbs Up

It's for a D2 but the same applies. The guy's guides are really very good.

Think it answers more or less all your questions. Other than the one about the D4x4 one vs Paddocks...

Tbh no idea. D4x4 are not quoting a part number but both are listed as OEM so I'd probably just get the paddocks one.

Given the relatively low cost I'd go for the Genuine part and avoid the Britpart item for starters.

Just to say thanks for all the advise Bow down

So I did it this afternoon, took me under two hours. Refitted with genuine loom and gasket in the end, decided not worth saving pennies on that. After it was all refitted she fired up like a good un! Put silicon grease in the plug on the injector loom and also round the blue seals so hopefully this will discourage further migration. Now I'll just drain it at the ecu end every few days.
