I like the detail of including a laser-cut (or similar) C-spanner!
Next time I have the transfer box off - hopefully not too soon as it was last done recently - I will be fitting one of these. Excellent idea, beautiful engineering! |

Just over 18 monrths since I started this thread, and my 110 has started making similar noises to shortly before the adaptor shaft failed back in 2013. They came on very suddenly this morning and so I'm planning on getting it recovered to a local garage (no point driving it and getting stuck in the middle of nowhere).
Just when I thought I'd got it more or less sorted out (stopped the numerous leaks, fixed the corrosion, replaced the knackered starter motor...) . |

Hi Ian! Thank looks like a neat job with the Grease Nipple! Question; will you then drill a hole into the casing to allow access to the nipple? and if so, hole will have to be in the bottom of casing yes? i would assume so. I guess you could also plug the hole with a suitable rubber bung or similar to help stop water / mud etc ingress? Your thoughts? Riz 2011 110 Tdci 1982 Range Rover V8 Classic (Gone) |

To seal the hole I would think something along the lines of drilling and then tapping a thread to take a bung plug or similar. I think something like a diff level bung which is about 1/2 NPT or some such obscure thread. It has to be enough to get the grease gun in.

Hi
I went to the dealer and brought the drain bung used for the puma gear box, drilled and tapped through the side to gain access, the end result looks factory. There is another nipple on the opposite side on the coupling to keep everything balanced All worked quite well! Ian 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Hi All, in case anyone fancies a laugh.. see the below response from the dealers in Nairobi -
---------- Reference our telecom and the service history that you sent, the following have been noted; 1. On the 8th of August 2013, the transfer box rear output seal was replaced. 2. This was not done by a JLR authorized dealer. 3. The replacement of this seal would require one to remove the output shaft. 4. If whilst refitting the shaft the snap ring is not properly seated, damage consistent to the current failure would result. In view of the above, JLR is not in position to assist with the current repairs. ----------- T-Box rear output shaft seal replacement required *rear output shaft* to be removed??? This is after ive sent them pictures of the above parts .. intermediate shaft and coupling. Ha Ha Ha. 2011 110 Tdci 1982 Range Rover V8 Classic (Gone) |

That is exactly the mod that at least one main dealer has been applying, a mod which I was told was officially sanctioned by LR, though I have no evidence of such official sanction. |

Rear output shaft seal .... that's the one that leaks into the handbrake, and only requires removal of the handbrake and drive flange, right? Are they complete morons? |

I just put a rubber bung in mine , as its not a sealed casing anyway
did think about making it sealed then have it oil filled , would be easy to do |
