Sump/Steering Guard
I am looking to fit a sump/steering guard on my Defender.

Got a price from LR this morning and got a shock !

Can anyone reccomend an alternative and also how easy these are to fit ?

Pics would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I fitted my my Bowler steering guard this week and I'm very happy with it. They are not the cheapest but in my opinion worth the money, they are fairly straightforward to fit, everything lined up perfectly so was just a case of bolting everything up in the right order Thumbs Up

Steering guards???

There are lots of different makers and some are cheap as chips. I have some photos of what happens to the el cheapo version off ebay. Not pretty.

So would suggest you stick to recogonised and respected brand names.

Mantec? Flatdog are normally cheapest for the Mantec brand

I recently fitted this one

http://www.paddockspares.com/pm716-heavy-d...ender.html

It was extremely easy to fit and comes with all bolts etc. All lined up and no need to get the large hammer or angle grinder out. First time for anything i have had to fit to a defender so far Very Happy

I have sprayed it Java Black to match body colour. very robust and looks good.

I like it as its comes quite forward, and has the recovery eyes.

Where did you get this from? Flatdog are £104 presently.

Does anyone have any pics of the black one fitted? Trying to decide on colour.

Bought from Flatdog as they were the cheapest.

As I said at the time, there were major ordering issues (they told me it had been dispatched when they didn't even have any in stock and then it was weeks before they were available despite still allowing people to order from the website) but when it finally arrived it was good. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Why go for an aluminium one rather than a galvanised one? Is there any particular advantage to justify they fact they're twice the price?

I have a Southdown steel steering guard which has seen service on at least four of my previous Defenders, it's a substantial bit of kit which is sadly no longer in production. Are people on this forum buying bash plates primarily based on looks or function? Steve.

Hi you say: "This beautifully made guard is made from thick but lightweight solid Aluminium plate,"
How thick is that exactly in mm please?
