Asides from weight issues, why go aluminum over a galvanized steel set up?
Also, are set ups with the removable plate bit but leave the mounts on better than set ups where you have to replace everything when you have to replace the plate bit? Are these guards to be used with track rod guards or is it an either or proposition? |

Either/or. The guards would clash.
I don't think there's any advantage of either bolt on, or bolt on brackets. It should be a fit and forget item really. |

I had a beautiful COR4 aluminium steering guard that fitted easily and was made to last (see the COR4 or EQUIPE web sites) however before you buy any guard consider what you want to use your defender for. Mine looked good but didn't have any recovery eyes, I wanted to use Jate rings and they would not fit with it.
Unless you are going to off road you are adding a load of weigh for nothing, if you want to seriously off road then you need one made for that not as a cosmetic addition, you also need to consider other items such as recovery points winches and steering dampers before you make your purchase as not everything fits together. Cosmetically I think Jate rings make my 90 look more purposeful than the steering guard Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I have an SVX steering guard that had done the rounds with two other forum members. When I upgraded to a bumper with recovery eyes it wouldn't fit so I took a disc cutter to it and shaved an inch off either side so it would. I then had it stripped and powdercoated black.

Similarly, I had the SVX guard and it didn't fit with jate rings. I had a friend mill the plate so it did fit.

I have still to find one that will fit with mine - I'm not sure why that is so hard. had a cracking setup on my old Disco from W&H Wheelcarriers. Click image to enlarge
I'd argue that they are also far more useful. |

"The Alive Tuning Steering guard for the Land Rover Defender, not only giving protection to vital steering components, but also helping to direct the airstream beneath the axle, reducing the amount of MPG destroying drag when travelling at speed."
So do you have any figures for this? |

Hi
Our Steering Guard does effectively help direct the airstream in a more beneficial manner and we can prove this by using our Dyno fan and our smoke machine to show the path the air takes at 60mph wind speed. By a result of this it causes less drag which in turn increases MPG. This is fairly basic knowledge that less drag = more MPG. If there is a demand we will be happy to set up this demonstration on our Dyno again to prove our point. Cheers Alex Divers |

I fitted the understated standard tubular steering guard, which is more than good enough for basic road kill/debris.Also good enough for the army.
