I had a 90 2.2 last week as a courtesy vehicle, and no EGR cleaning cycle after turning off the engine, thought there was something wrong, then I'm sure on the 2.2 it's turned off by design?

That's interesting, anyone shed a light on why? It's not turned off in Ford-quise, or at least it cleans on my 2010 2.2 Transit. Craig Rogers

I heard mine after a while. It was replaced under warranty. If you know what to hear for, you can still hear it, but it must be very quiet. Mine's a 2.4 btw.
If you hear it, it may be dirty and the valve is running dry. |

I replaced mine and heard it straight away in my 2.4, although it was a lot quieter as the old one was sticking and making very load noises, even when opening/closing when driving.
Funnily enough, this weekend, I had a stutter at around 2,000rpm when warm and didn't hear the clean on one of the shut downs, so suspect my current one is starting to clog up too. Although a pain, I'm not interested in removal/disable/block-off as it has it's purpose. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

Am I right thinking that a 2.2 having a DPF now, does not have a EGR valve anymore?

Good question Eric.
If it doesn't have one that would indeed explain why I can't hear it. |

I'm pretty certain the 2.2 has an EGR?
Wasn't Pete (Bell) the first to crack disabling it? EDIT: Here's the post - http://www.defender2.net/forum/post211890.html Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

Read on aulro.com that the 2.2 Puma has a new type of water cooled EGR valve... Maybe without the chuka, chuka, chuka cleaning cycle of the 2.4 ???
Also read that those too fail eventually, and would cost x times more than those in the 2.4.... Guess the jury remains out there until we get the wisdom from one of our tech experts. If it's the one I'm thinking of (that's fitted to later Transits), then it's exactly the same but just has a water pipe running across it to cool it.
I think that they are interchangeable too, although you'd have to tap into a coolant supply. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

My 2.2 definitely has the chuka chuka noise, but it's not every time the engine's turned off.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think that the EGR cleaning cycle even on the 2.4 is supposed to be audible - a new valve should be just about silent in operation, then the chukka chukka sound indicates that the valve is getting ropey, then the reversion to silence indicates that it is stuck. Mine was noisy but nice Mr Bell fixed that! |
