R380 knocking/ticking.
Hi all, after a little help. My new to me defender came with a gearbox problem. It has sat for three years and the previous owner thought it was the thrust bearing but I'm not sure. So it has a constant knock while running. It increases with revs and does it in natural and every gearbox except 4th and when clutch is pressed. Other than that it runs smoothly and changes gear nicely.
Any help to diagnose it would be great.
Chris.

If it's not in 4th I would suspect lay shaft bearing. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Knocking usually means broken teeth.
See whats in the oil, will either be teeth or like lambert says bits of bearing. Big Cry 2003 Td5 90
