Don't get me wrong, I absolutely L.O.V.E. the Heritage looks and the Grasmere GREEN is, for me anyway, a dream colour to die for...
Still currently trying to find one to grace our drive, at some point this year, although without success thus far!... Anyhoo: given what the truck is attempting to represent, should we even consider defiling the look Land Rover have tried so hard to provide for us... I am thinking: full length side protection steps with nasty chequer plate stuff; rear NAS step with tow ball/hitch and associated electrics (or even just a tow ball & hitch without the NAS); chequer plate wing tops; or a radio/double din sat nav affair and; even carpets? Well, should we... Or should such a truck be left pure, pristine and nekkid as the day it leaves the JLR factory? Their Heritage; Our Heritage... Rog... The GREEN One... just thinking the same thing.
at the end of the day it is a vehicle to be used and driven. There is not a limited edition defender that should be not be used for the general function that it was made, that includes the early sv, original heritage, 50th v8, g4 etc if you own it do what you like with it; some enthusiast can restore it in 25 years time and it will make a great magazine article. |

Venomator, get to B&Q paint department with a photo of the Heritage, have a couple of tins of 'Grassmere' made up and spend a weekend with a roller and paint tray tackling any base model you want. Take the grill from your BBQ, bolt it to the front 'et voila' an untouched, unspoilt and original Grassmere Heritage. What's more, no need to wait for delivery. It's not Grassmere and ok, they're LHD, but French Army Defenders use a very nice 'heritage' colour. Seen a few bimbling around here in the Alps. Very smart.

When the love of cars was on they had the seats trimmed in the green leather. It is supposed to be a rare as hens teeth.
I understand the reason for the heritage model as it is what started LR on their way. My thoughts to make it a little better would have been the original style rear crossmember with the hole (I believe was for a drive shaft but happy to be corrected. I am new) and the front with the crank hole I believe. The original didn't have black caps on the bumper so not overly sure why the heritage model has them. Possibly add grab handles to the rear crossmember. I think having a Land Rover Birmingham England badge or Warwickshire would really add to it. Adding AC is something I would do just to make it more comfortable. To me it just looks like a 2015 Defender with different paint. I think they could have added a lot more 'Heritage' to the model. Still a very good looking vehicle and if I could afford one I would buy without question and just tweek it to my tastes. That's the beauty of LR everyones can be their own with a couple of tweeks. You paid for it, do what you like to it. Same rules apply to single malt - you pay for it, stick Irn Bru in it if you want to!
Your changes sound good, and reversible though. Re finding one - Guy Salmon Wakefield is who I called and they were confident I could get one. They guessed they might get 3 max. I've since decided against it but worth calling them if you are calling around the Dealers. Cheers. |

once I've sorted any leaks out I will think about a pair of Green Leather trim Seats and put the originals in storage.

I like the look of the Heritage but for me I'd want to keep it as it is, any unjust modification in my eyes would devalue it. In reality I couldn't justify owning one anyway as I work mine and think with these Special Editions they're are best looked after and treated with cotton wool. Each to their own though!
