New owner, unhappy owner
Hi guys,

I bought my first defender (after years of saving Sad ) and I think I bought the wrong one.
The car has 90.000km's and was bought without warranty and maintenance from a well known dealer, with a decent
The car had no maintenance history and I was told it had a B maintenance on 80.000 km's, thats what the previous owner told the dealer ! (so thats uncertain)
I already scheduled a new B service in 2 weeks.
After one week of driving, I was doing some offloading (not heavy) and the oil pressure light jumpt on for 3 seconds.
I called the guy that would be doing the B service the next week and he said to check the oil.
There was nothing on the dipstick ! I needed to add 3L to get it just above the middle of the marker.
I than drove to the guy that would do the service, and with a fast checkup there was no sing of oil leaks.
There is no black or blue smoke coming from the exhaust.

- "can" the engine used that much oil ? (don't know when it was checked and filled up the last time)
- Will there be much damage done to the engine due to the low oil stand ?

how badly am i screwed Neutral ?

Hopefully you will be ok.
However you should have checked the oil level the day you bought it.

What year is the car

I would get it serviced immediately and a full health check which I'm sure you're going to do.
Once you have a clean bill of health I'm sure you can sit back and enjoy your ownership.
They are great cars and will go anywhere.

Good luck and don't worry too much.

AS Ickle said.
If the engine oil is that low you dont know what the other levels are like.
Change all, oils and filters,& moniter levels for a while,at least then you know all is good.

Hi, while it's bad to see an oil light at any time in a way it's good that the oil light came on because the oil level was low, if it came on when there was plenty of oil in it then you really would have problems. Hopefully a thorough service of everything and you'll be OK.
Good luck. 2.2 90 XS

remember your consumer rights, in the UK we have rules in place ....

http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/advice/...s-sum6.cfm

could be that the service didn't fill wit the correct levels, it can use oil, its an engine, they all use oil...at differing rates.

keep an eye on it.

Well you will find out, but let's hope you are OK

As Jay Boy / ickle and sharkey964 have pointed out

Your next move is to fully service it... Thumbs Up

As for your rights, unless wrongly described, 'caveat emptor'... buyer beware.

Good luck SKIP
