United Kingdom 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Cairns Blue
I have never known of a roller bearing having to be run in. It sound as mention above it has either not been shimmed properly, incorrectly fitted or even put in dry. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

running in is to put a fine polish surface on , there is no real difference between a tapered roller brg or any other brg its still two surfaces (roller/ball and track) against each other

if you looked at a brg surface under a microscope it would look like a ploughed field , running in is what it says to get the two surfaces polished to each other and for longest possible life

I know grinding / finishing processes are a lot better than they used to be , BUT I would not fit a new brg in anything then use to maxium load and speed until it had settled in and been run a while allowing grease to spread out etc

I would take it steady for a while , check temp of hub etc , in other words run it in a bit

and if your not happy take it back !!!

or just take it back anyway for peace of mind and safety for you

you would be amazed at the amount of garages that don't test drive cars before they go out !!!
