2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Cairns Blue

Hello and Steering Box Question

Hi

I recently scracthed an itch and bought my first Defender, a 2007 Puma CSW and am chuffed to bits with it.

I bought it knowing that the steering box would need replacing as it was picked up as an advisory on the MOT.

I have been looking at the options and know that Magal (formerly Adwest) will supply a new steering box for £338 Inc VAT, but not sure if I would find someone that would do a fit only job - I am in Surrey, J13 of the M25.

Alternatively I have spoken to Harris Mayes (have read some good things about them) and they will supply and fit a recon box for £357 + VAT.

I mentioned to them that I'd read of issues with recon boxes and they said they use a specific reconditioner and would also guarantee the work up to 18 months.

I also have another garage as an option, not sure what box they supply, but am probably looking at £350 for the box and £150 for the labour + VAT.

Would appreciate your input, thanks!

With my skills, I am pretty sure it would not end well!

Have decided to buy direct from Adwest (Magal) now and my local garage are going to fit for £168 inc VAT.
